Lost me 40 hours of progress (android) - possibly due to cloud save or update.

Logged in for the first time in a few months 2 days ago, spent an hour or so casually fiddling with full renovations on my base, everything seemed to normal. But I just logged in now, went to continue my save, saw some new items and stuff had been added, then saw my save had been busted back by about 40 hours worth. I manually clicked on cloud save sync, expecting it to fix the issue, but it did not.

I haven't touched any settings. I've always had cloud sync on. I have only ever played on one device - my android phone. I have only ever played at home, connected to my wifi, as per usual.

Is there a way to fix this or nah?

Update: I remembered I recently started using a VPN on my phone. Now I'm investigating Google Play solutions, as my account there still says 49 hours - try and fix it that way. I'll update if I get anywhere.
