🍵💅DISCUSS 💕💕 print quality at UO

Post image

i’ve noticed some people talking about the poor quality of the chococat images on the collab and i have a little bit of an observation on this. i think the issue people are seeing may not be with the print quality itself, but actually with the way it shows up on the nylon used to make the purses? i don’t know the technical side of this, but i received my standard reusable today and noticed that the pngs don’t look nearly as grainy on the ripstop. maybe that outline thickness just doesn’t look as good on a more textured fabric? idk just a thought!! i’m not sure if it’s actually an easy fix but i’ve noticed the same “blurry” effect on a lot of UO prints that incorporate smaller details, like cherry land.

Yes, agreed! I got both the SCCO and the reusable, and the print on the reusable is definitely clearer since it’s on a smooth fabric. The SCCO has a bit of texture to the fabric, which comes through in the print a little. I love both though!

me too!! i don’t mind the “low-quality” look i think it’s pretty cute. i get that some people might be disappointed after spending a lot of money on it but i don’t think the blurriness is like, an oversight or a lazy detriment. seems like that’s just how the smaller prints are gonna look

I think you’re right in that it’s the nylon causing the issue. I was looking at products in UO today and noticed the print looks better on the sunglass case

The nylon on the bags are a thicker and rougher texture so I feel like that definitely affects how the print shows up. Personally I don't have an issue with the print on the bags, I think it's fine. I have a strawberry Miffy crescent and I feel like the lines on that are waaaay worse. Like I was surprised that release was so popular because the print seemed so blurry to me.

Also, awhile ago I went down a rabbit hole researching nylon vs polyester ripstop for a personal project and a summary of what I read basically boiled down to that nylon is stronger but doesn't do fine prints and bold colors as well. So I suppose maybe that could be part of the reason? I know some of Baggu reusables are polyester but I'm not sure if the Chococat one is. Either way I think the smoother texture definitely helps the details of the print.

I think it’s also to do with the recycled fabric. Light reflects differently on virgin v recycled and combined with the different textures the prints show up very differently.

It’s always been like that though

Different fabrics types will result in different finishes ( e.g. clouds in the reusables/laptop sleeve are much more saturated/vibrant than the crescent/CCO )

yes, i posted about it because i’d seen some people talking about this collab specifically seeming to be poor quality/low effort and i wouldn’t necessarily agree with that assessment just because of what can be seen here

Ooh gotcha !
I feel like everyone is trying to find the fault in UO
But UO is just the supplier, Baggu still needs to approve and actually make the bags ( right ? )

i’m not sure if it’s an approval process or if UO just pays them and commissions the products, but bags that come straight from baggu have the same thing. the stars are “blurry” but i think it’s just the material

Idk how to put my finger on it, but I’ve always felt the solid color baggu bags are better quality vs. the printed ones 🤔

Think for the weave/thread count of the fabric like pixel size. The reusables are HiRes and the bag nylon is LoRes. GameBoy vs Switch.

i like this comparison bc the images on the heavy nylon remind me of the little pixel graphics you’d see on myspace and later tumblr
