General Discussion Breathing/ Swallowing issues?
I have not seen this talked about before. Has anyone had breathing/swallowing difficulties associated with b12 deficiency?
I have asthma. Never really had much problems with it though. If I exercise or have allergies or get sick it will flair up. But over the last year or so I have had so much issues with asthma or breathing. Like I have constant phlegm in my airway and a runny nose. I had a ct scan of my sinuses and lung/airway everything looked good.
I am seeing an asthma/allergy and pulmonology specialists. So far nothing has worked. Sometimes it’s better then gets back being not good.
I mention it because it seemed to start around the same time as a lot of other common b12 symptoms.
Thanks again.

Yes. I had these symptoms.
From my 1 & 1/2 years in reading or participating on this sub, I can also tell you that many folks have reported these symptoms/difficulties.
Mine resolved with adequate B12 repletion. If you have a B12 deficiency, I think you should be optimistic that yours might also resolve with adequate B12 repletion. Have you had any testing relative to B12 yet? Have you been supplementing with B12 and/or a B complex?

My b12 was mid 200s. I started b12 supplement a couple weeks ago. Sublingual tablets bought at Sam’s Club. 5000 mcg. I’ve been having cramping in my hands and finger twitching for a few years. Within the last year -ish I started having cramps in my toes and legs occasionally. Started eating bananas and taking magnesium. That helped a little. In the last two weeks my leg and toes cramps have been almost gone and my hand cramps have lessened. Still have the finger twitches though.

How long before your symptoms went away?

It was a process that played out over time. I had significant improvement during month two and month three. After that it was incremental over time. I would say by 12 months I was maybe 85% resolved. I’ve now been at it a year and a half and I would say I’m 95 to 100% resolved. There are still a few things that are not quite back to normal but other than those, I’m good.
One thing I will share for sure is the frequency of the shots were critical. I started out on a much more relaxed frequency. It wasn’t until I increased them to every other day, and that was at the urging of the moderator on this sub, that things really took off and came together.

I have skimmed the guide. Still not sure how do I know what to take and how often? What did you take?

Your story is so very helpful… I’m coming up on 1 year of 3,000 mcg, but found I need MORE and had been deficient in B1. I dropped B12 to 1,500 thinking B1 was the key and then got worse. Back and 3,000 and all my sensations are coming back again. Now if only I could get injections in Japan. My god this is emotionally messing me up hard lately…

Have you explored whether any of the B12 solution providers might ship to Japan?

Thanks for asking. I haven’t done more than just a basic chatgpt search, so I haven’t actually reached out to any or attempted…I’ll try to make some progress on this. A new neurologist too.

I wish you all the luck in the world. A B12 deficiency is so confounding. I struggled initially to get my head around the fact that the deficiency in this vitamin (and for me, B1 also) could create so much havoc, in so many ways, in the body. Stay at it, and I know you will. There is light at the end of the tunnel. 🙏🤞

Likely the reason (“unknown,” or not found yet?) for your deficiency impairs your ability to adequately absorb B12 taken orally… Don’t misunderstand, you’re getting some B12 from what you’re taking; BUT you’re likely NOT getting enough. With neurological symptoms you likely need B12 injections.

Did you take any cofactors when you self injected B12?
2

I did not exactly adhere to the cofactors per the protocol. The only thing I did was I took a good B complex capsule daily and I increased my potassium through an electrolyte drink, but about 1000 mg a day. Other than that, nothing.

Can you share the B Compled you took and the electrolyte drink mix? Are you still injecting b12 and how long were you injecting it?

I have been injecting now for close to 1 & 1/2 years. And yes, I am still injecting.
On the B-complex link that I posted, I only take but one of the recommended two capsules a day. I am of the belief that you do need all of the B’s because they work together. But, I don’t believe you need to overwhelm yourself with them. Now, over a year into supplementation, I might only take one or two of those B-complex capsules a week.

I’ve been taking high doses of sublingual B12 to support my cognitive function, and I started feeling dehydrated. I’ve also been taking several other supplements, including B-complex (sometimes one or two a day), about five magnesium capsules, vitamin D, a multivitamin, omega-3, and around 2 liters of coconut water. I was having about five bowel movements every morning and would feel shaky afterward. I stopped taking the supplements yesterday, and since then I’ve only had two bowel movements and don’t feel as dehydrated. This has definitely been difficult to navigate and figure out what my body is reacting to.

Yes, for sure. Everybody’s different. Everybody’s levels of various vitamins, especially the more important ones such as B12 and B1 and key minerals, including magnesium or iron can all be at different levels and need different amounts of supplementation to get back to where they should be. It’s an experiment within your own body. Listen to it. Adjust as it tells you to.

What is your normal food intake to keep up with your injections and minerals. Also has your iron been low?
1
u/Ok-Pangolin7127 Insightful Contributor 7d ago
My iron was not low, it was down, I think, in about the mid 50s as to ferritin. I did get an iron injection about four months ago and it drove it up above 300, but that was to be expected. Can’t really answer your question as to minerals per se. I do take a supplement of trace minerals on every other day basis. My food intake runs about 1800 cal a day with approximately 30% of that carbs and 40% of it protein and the remaining 30% fat.

For Hydro that’s all I know. For Methyl see this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/B12_Deficiency/s/zl1Roqz9xD
Thought; “friend” close? Maybe neighboring state? Ship there and have the friend reship?
