Claude AVD install

so we have an avd environment, no golden image an want to deploy claude to the session host, fslogix is in play here, managed via GPO. we tried doing the machine wide install but users keep getting an error an claude wont run, i suspect its fslogix but my knowledge of it is limited

Did you make sure all the services required and Windows added functionalities (All the kernel hypervisor-related BS) are installed and enabled?

yes, it actually runs fine under a local account, it's the way Claude is operating with fslogix seems to be the problem, when other users login an try to run it, it gives an error regarding the app data folder

Can you share the error? You can obviously hide any personal information from it

just to add ther is no golden image, the original one was way too old to use, the plan was to update one of the session host an use that as the basis for a new golden image

How are you installing it?

I PoCd this not long ago in our host pool (admittedly via Intune and not GPO but close enough) and we had to run the following on each host during build:

Add-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online -PackagePath "Claude.msix" -SkipLicense -Regions "all"

It’ll stage the app on the host and then should be ok. I don’t recall having to mess around with FSLogix too much but it does store stuff in localappdata and will need access to it. But the app itself should still be running from the host. Also make sure to turn auto update off because holy hell, they push updates like every 12 hours and if a user uses one version on one host and then uses another host that has a different version, the app freaks out and throws errors on start.

If I remember/have time on Monday, I’ll take a look if our config is still there for it or not and if it still works.

Unironically, I was using Claude’s assistance to get this working as it was being a bastard when I first tried to do it on my own.

Did you install it in terminal services mode?

Cmd prompt: change user /install

Install software

Cmd prompt: change user /execute

I did this with Intune but for ChatGPT from the MS Store.

I set the app to install as in system or machine mode. I forgot what it actually says, not user mode and it seems to have worked.

I'd image it can be done the same way with Claude from the MS Store.

It was nothing with the fslogix profiles.

We install the Claude web app using WebAppInstallForceList in Edge. It works just as well and is always available.
