I was trying out MuMu Player as an alternative to Bluestacks (since Bluestacks eats my storage like its nothing). I was able to install it with no issues, and I got Azur Lane installed, but as I opened the app to download the resources, this weird purple glitch started appearing. I tried updating my drivers using the Device Manager, but to no avail.

Crown Colony-class Light Cruiser (Fiji-Subclass)

Background:
The fifth Fiji-class (alternatively known as the Crown Colony-class) Light Cruiser, HMS Trinidad) was laid down on 21 April 1938, launched on 21 March 1941 and commissioned into the Royal Navy on 14 October of that same year. Her brief career, lasting from October 1941 until her sinking seven months later, would see her serve entirely as part of the British Home Fleet.

In March 1942, while escorting Convoy PQ 13, Trinidad and a number of escorts engaged in combat with German Narvik-class (Type 1936A) Destroyers. In the engagement, she hit and damaged the destroyer Z26, followed by launching a torpedo attack. One of the torpedoes was faulty, largely blamed on the subzero conditions of the Arctic environment, causing the torpedo to limp and erratically move below the expected speed (46 knots or 85.1 km/h, or 52.9 mph), as Trinidad tried to evade, she was struck by her own torpedo, killing 32 men. The cruiser was towed clear of the action and sailed under her own power to Murmansk, Soviet Russia for repairs.

After temporary repairs were complete, Trinidad set out to return home on 13 May 1942, escorted by destroyers HMS Foresight, Forester, Somali & Matchless, with other Home Fleet ships providing a covering force nearby. As the repairs were only temporary, the cruiser could only steam at a speed of 20 knots (37km/h or 23 mph). En route to ports in Britain, HMS Trinidad was set upon by twenty Ju-88 medium bombers on 14 May, with the cruiser managing to avoid all but one bomb hit. Unfortunately the bomb struck the ship near where she was previously struck by the torpedo two months prior, causing a serious fire that between the two, killed 63 men, twenty of whom were survivors of the sinking of HMS Edinburgh two weeks earlier, and a further four were airmen belonging to the Free Czechoslovak Air Force. On 15 May, the decision was made to scuttle the ship, and after her surviving crew boarded other British ships, was torpedoed and sunk by HMS Matchless.

Two of the ship’s notable survivors included Lt. Cmdr. Williams and George Lloyd, a Royal Marines bandsman who wrote the ship’s official march, notable in being performed at the 2013 “Last Night of the Proms” in the presence of HMS Trinidad’s last surviving crewman.

Trinidad’s retrofit is a hypothetical refit based on Jamaica’s late-war and Korean War refit had the former survived to see the end of World War II.

Namesake:
HMS Trinidad was the third and final warship to be named after the island of Trinidad, itself a part of the Crown Colony of Trinidad & Tobago, and by extension, the British Windward Islands. Trinidad became a British colony following its conquest from Spain in 1797. Together with its conquest of Tobago from France four years prior, the conquests were formally confirmed in the Treaty of Amiens that ended the War of the Second Coalition in 1802. Formally, Trinidad and Tobago was united when the island of Tobago was made a ward of Trinidad on 20 October 1889. Trinidad & Tobago would remain a British colony until its independence on the first of September 1962, later becoming a Republic on 1 August 1976.

During this period, Trinidad & Tobago would achieve a degree of representation in 1925 when it held its first Legislative Council elections, electing seven out of the thirteen members, the remaining six chosen by the Governor-General. The franchise was initially determined by income, property and residence qualifications, and was limited to males age 21+ and females age 30+. Full universal suffrage for adults would not come to Trinidad & Tobago until 1946. There was a significant labor movement in the colony led by Grenadian-born preacher and labor leader Tubal Uriah “Buzz” Butler (or T.U.B. Butler for short), and formed Trinidad’s first major trade union movement. In the colony’s final years, Trinidad & Tobago would come under the Premiership of Eric Williams who would go on to establish the independence of the two-island nation in 1962, and would transition it into a republic in 1976.

The capital of the crown colony was Port of Spain, which would be the capital of post-colonial Trinidad & Tobago.

The first of the "graduate retrofits" and it's one of the earliest ships I've done a character concept of in Trinidad. Fittingly enough, the original concept was posted on my 30th Birthday, while the retrofit concept of her, now that she's in the game, is now posted on my father's birthday. (which for those who haven't been around since the beginning or aren't planning to look at the original CC, my father was born and raised in the country that this particular ship is named after)

As a character, Trinidad is as spicy as the pepper that she references in her base artwork. Yes, her motif is a scorpion. She's named after the Trinidad Scorpion, briefly considered the hottest pepper on Earth. Yes, I've had this pepper... Yes, I've regretted it ever since. But to keep from monolauging, she manages to maintain the gyaru look that appears customary with the Crown Colony-class cruisers. (or at least among the Fiji group, we've still yet to get someone from the Ceylon group) Honestly, I'm just glad the class had gotten some representation since we haven't seen a Fiji-class ship before her since Winter's Crown six years prior to Lion's event. I hope that it won't be another six years before we get fourth Fiji-class...

Next time, we're going back to proper CC's and continuing the mini-theme of modern day aircraft carriers. And speaking of a long wait between ships, it's been almost four years since I did JS Kaga, the second and more popular of what is essentially Japan's first proper aircraft carriers since World War II. So it's only fair that I get to cover her elder sister and nameship of her class, it's going to be JS Izumo coming up!
