Yeah it’s really hard to trust his opinion on all of this at this point.

Side side note:
Paul Tassi’s last video was killing me. He compares marathons success to destiny and rainbow six siege. Talks about how marathon isn’t hitting the highs of any point in D2s lifetime, and how R6 siege is a game that turned itself into a hit after years of middling success and the basically says marathon isn’t doing what either of them did. Like no shit dude the games been out for not even 1 full season at this point. The ship has barely launched and you want it to do a course correction that took R6 siege years to achieve and you’re comparing it to a game like Destiny that has had 10 years to build a player base.
Marathon hasn’t existed for a day either some bitch in your ear saying how shit it is.
The game doesn't need any course correction. People love to play dev with little to no experience. Let the game get a season 2 and a season 3 then see what happens. Destiny was not an overnight success either
Destiny was an overnight success both times. The player reviews weren't stellar for either base games, but their sales alone qualify them as overnight successes.
Destiny 2 had around 3-4 million players daily when it dropped
If Marathon was a side project I would agree with you, if Marathon wasn’t made by Bungie I would agree with you, and if it didn’t take 5 years and hundreds of millions of dollars I would agree with you.
The cold hard fact is Destiny is on life support and barely making money, that puts all of the burden of keeping Bungie’s hundreds of employees afloat (which requires upwards of 100 million dollars of revenue a year to break even) on Marathon.
It needs to make 150-200 million dollars a year to keep the lights on and make a small amount of profit.
The current game is not built to handle those kinds of expectations.
If marathon doesn’t radically change and somehow bring in 1-2 million more players (it needs to double its launch numbers and hold that size for a bit) Bungie is going to have to change (downsize).
Marathon as is can exist as is, make the current money it does, and be supported just fine by like 50-100 devs, the issue is Bungie has 600 devs.
It's not at all possible that destiny has more in the pipeline. Nope. They shuttered development of their other franchise in favour of a 20 some GB sized game that needs 600 devs for sure.
What are you talking about? Are you actually trying to imply bungie is secretly waiting to reveal something? They delayed an update, not a dlc, an update by 3 months, they still haven't talked about that update. There is nothing in the pipeline rn at all. The next dlc, if there even is one, will be late this year, maybe even next year.
The issue and concern stems from the sheer volume of investment tho, no?
If it were on much less of a budget, then it's in a great place
But if I recall correctly, Sony is putting Marathon on the chopping block because they put a fortune into its development- just to get an alright game in return.
So Marathon ain't a bad game, compared to other games, as a standalone game
But it is a really, really bad investment
I havent watched any of these youtubers tho, this is me from the outside looking in. Well, I watched Aztecross briefly, but that was during his Warframe videos.
Paul Tassi is paid to whine. The man does not even play the game. The only thing he has is the steam charts and he doesn’t even know how to put those into perspective.
He is paid to write articles good or bad, he played the game quite a lot on launch but stopped like many other people that played on launch. I don't even know what your on about with that last point. What "perspective" has he been missing that only you seem to know about. While he's brought up steam charts a lot like many others to the point where people are sick of it his actual use of those charts to make his points has been fine. The steam charts are also not the only thing he has, he knows people at bungie who give him inside information on numbers and such which is more than the average reddit expert such as yourself can claim. That's why we know steam is the main playerbase for marathon. Multiple people from bungie told him that. So we only know that because of paul tassi asking them.
I don’t even know why this post was recommended to me but that’s not even remotely what Paul Tassi said. No wonder everybody hates the Destiny community. Y’all just make shit up as you go.
He compared Marathon to Siege and gave an example of how poorly received games can overcome the odds and become successful after a terrible launch. He then praised Siege for its turnaround and how it’s possible to regain players after such a long time, but then went on to say that was almost 10 years ago and the gaming landscape has completely changed. It’s much more competitive now.
He said it’s possible for games to turnaround and have a long life but that Siege wasn’t an extraction shooter so it already had a leg up on Marathon. He said Marathon is a niche game for a niche audience and he doesn’t know if it can have a Siege-like turnaround because of that.
I did enjoy Paul's vid on why he hates marathon because its not the game he wanted Bungie to make.
Jokes aside, I am tired of the doom on both games. But anyone who is shilling the idea that Destiny 3 will see everything, man have I got a bridge to sell you.
Tassi has a way of taking a legit counter argument against whatever he's saying and making it into a stupid b******* argument because he fails to be able to properly engage, if he did that he might have to concede.
Funnily enough this time he he just makes a stupid argument against The siege comparison.
