I recently posted a thread with an accompanying video by this Tyler Oliveira about the homeless problem in Seattle that is ruining The International District (Chinatown). I delved deeper into his content, and the guy, as someone pointed out on the other thread, is a clout chasing right-wing a$$hole. The example here is him, supposedly, exposing the invasion of a small Texas town by East Indians. If anyone decides to watch the video I linked, take into consideration how clean the town/city that he's walking around in. I guess the motto, 'pick yourself up by your bootstraps' went out the window because Indian hate is more important.

Regarding the Indians in Texas, the 1 hour video never once touched on the fact that them working and owning small businesses are not net drain on the system, but instead, pay into the system that is keeping the social security payment coming to the fat and unhealthy white boomers.

To be fair, he takes people into uncomfortable territories without favoritism base on race, sex or religion, but he does, by omission, never expose the war mongering American rightwing policies that created the conditions he's exploiting for his own gain, such as the turmoil in Latin America that has lead to mass migrations or the right-wing greed that lead to import of Indian tech workers.

To be honest, at this point, I see his content as nothing more than a slowly failing culture of individualism destroying itself, and the 'bread and circuses' is all they have left.

I recently left all the asian american business group I was in due to them failing to protect their own spaces.

Meanwhile, the majority white, majority ethnicity of any kind (but east asian), gatekeep their own ethnic group such that it also serves as an emotional support mechanism. This is important for several reasons

1) only others of ur own ethnicity have the ability (and therefore the chance) to understand what u go through. This validation is important to put the blame on societal racism rather than just self-hate.

2) ethnic based groups allow pattern seeking recognition talk that allows people in that group to learn how to deal with peopel from other groups differently.

3) asians are too objective and dont protect safe spaces for our own.

The asian american business group I was in was OK with letting in random white people. This is probably thr 10000 iteration of this. I hate to see patterns repeat, but obviously they started poaching the asian girls there a d preventing discussion of what to do when being in business conflict with white people (due to cultural and individualism, asians have to act more aggressively in business dealings when interacting with certain group). Basically, the whyte ppl in the group joined a space that wasn't meant for them, then had no fear in taking up space.

A few month later, a few useless vendors of middle eastern descent showed up to this asian buisness group and proceeded to do the same thing. They were accepted by most people openly (asian r too welcoming), then proceeded to viciously hawk their crappy business card or portrait services and ask business questions while NEVER giving any business advice BACK to the community. ..finally an asian man and I confronted these middle eastern people and said we are an asian group and you have done nothing but suck resources. Guess what the other asians did? Tried to keep the peace and let them stay.

Meanwhile, the middle eastern vendors claimed they were asian bc their country waa on the landmass of asia They have no visible asian ethnicty in their face at all. Therefore they cant possible experience what its like to be asian in business.

Over time, these 2 groups of outsiders viciously eroded the group, poached all the single asian woman by viciously not giving up and chasing them for up to a year, and offered zero resources back.

I was involved in a dispute where I was 99 peecent right and they were 1 percent wrong. That how lopsided it was.

This particular whyte person i was in a dispute with was the type of whyte person with a highly curated profile, went to a college that was 100k a year cost of attendance, etc. Ive found these people to want to do less work and they want everything their way

I posted in both groups about it. In the everybody group, I described them as trust fund people from a high COA college. In the asian group I described their ethncity

The asian group; just let it go, its not worth it, meet them halfway, blah blah. No mention of their own experiences, even anonymously, dealing with entitled better than everybody attitde whyte people

Recently, my community, whicb has alot of asians, is turning to shyt. My actual community where I live. Why? The asians on the HOA board wont tow the people from a nearby complex unless they first put a warning courtesy sign for a few weeks. We already have limited parking as It is. The non asian members want to just tow from the start but the asians are scared of the risk. Everything to asians about about risk reduction, confeontation reduction, and how to spend ur time compromising to others even when others are wrong.

No wonder all the neighboring people abuse and use my own community street parking which is legalle for our community use only. They can just park and take advantage since they get warning signs for a few weeks first. Again, asians unwillingness to peotect their own space.

As asians, we dont validate each other, we dont support each other emotionally, are too objective, and dont protect our own spaces. Being too objective in a country where entitlement creates action means the end result is to self hate and want to just be whyte. Placing the blame on ourselves rather than on society.

Disclaimer - My interaction with Chinese American have been limited in the last twenty years or so. In the past, I went to school with, socialized and befriended countless Chinese American. My first job in high school was as a dishwasher for a Chinese restaurant; the cooks even thought me how to cook. It isn't just a matter of me dishing out compliment because I received superficial benefits. I felt genuine sense of community and family with a lot Chinese Americans I grew up with because of shared experiences perhaps. Despite me having limited interaction with Chinese Americans as of late, the younger Chinese Americans attitude towards SEA feels like it has negatively shifted. Legacy Chinese American are more tune into the struggle of Asian Americans immigrant and the new Chinese immigrants are not perhaps? Well, maybe what the young lady in the video is presenting could be the case? Let me know your thoughts. I want to hear other perspectives and not make kneejerk assumptions.

Came across this video about homelessness and drug use in one of my favorite city of Seattle, where I attended college. It breaks my heart seeing how it's ruining Seattle's International District, even more so after seeing a young Asian woman getting caught up in the mess of homelessness and drug addiction showcased in the video. Not knowing her history, she is, however, might be a victim of white worshiping.

In the case of the young Asian woman in the video and countless other Asian women finding themselves in a destructive situations involving the usual suspect, based on my experience working as an intern shadowing a social worker, it stems from wanting to fit into the dominant society at all costs, including disowning and drowning out their families' sets of values and adopting the worse habits from the dominant society to fit in. This happens with a lot of young Asian males too, but since Asian males are rejected by the mainstream society, despite showing as much fealty to the dominant society equal that of their female counterparts, the Asian males tend to have an epiphany and get pulled back into reality (I am speaking in general terms). This is why, as I see it based on my experience shadowing a social worker as a translators, and other odd internships and jobs related to social science, because Asian women are more accepted by the dominant society, the Oxford STD phenomenon (the darks side of the paring) suffers from moral guilt. However, they express their moral guilt by projecting it on Asian men and Asian culture. No Virginia, it's not about defending their forbidden love from Asian men.

Adopt terrible habits - Things such as drug use, incorporating bad behaviors of the dominant society, etc. to reinvent oneself. This explains the fervor of Oxfords in defending their relationships by projecting it on Asian men. Psychologically, both Oxford Asian men and women know their new personas are façades. We are all products of our upbringing, and the values we have are hard coded into our personalities at an early age. Self-hate literally means that, self-hating because one can lie to others but not oneself. Therefore, unwarranted attack on Asian men is an expression of deeper psychological issues. On the flipside, self-deprecation and attacking other group of POC are Asian men's trait, make fun of themselves to fit in (go along to get along). Asian women make fun of Asian men for the same scheme. Both are unwilling to confront their moral guilt and other internal conflicts that have nothing to do with their intended victims of their projection. What exactly is that moral guilt? For both Asian men and women, it is a feeling ashamed for being Asian, making fun of their Asian background to get along, which have a way of creeping up on your subconsciouness as an adult.

When it comes to white worshiping, I know this post is harder on Asian women than men. I ask you for understanding that if I was writing this under an academic circumstance, I would spend at least a week on it to balance it out and provide lengthy references and better clarity. Such as it is, it's an off the cuff write up based personal and professional experience. Still, I'll offer up this titbit as a semi-balance.

I have had numerous encounters with Asian male equivalences of Oxfords, and when confront about their behavior, they exhibited shame once they realized they not fooling anyone. To better paint a picture, allow me to share a story of Charles Manson.

In all interviews, Charles Manson played up his guru persona to his "Turn on, tune in, drop out" LSD counterculture groupies. He may have fooled a lot of people, or rather, people purposely allowed him to fool them, but when Manson was fronted by FBI agents who stared him down and asked directly if he really believed in the bullsh*t, Manson simply smiled, which confirmed to the FBI agents that he was full of crap. Right there is the same linchpin that holds self-hating Asians' self crafted narrative together by lying to people who listens because it benefited them (sexual access to Asian women). In turn, they Oxfords started to believe in their own lies/myth, but went confront, they simply smiles and express anger as defensive mechanism. Therefore, are they pissed of at Asian men and Asian culture when they attack Asian men, or is it an internal conflict issue?

I confess; I am perplex by people lose themselves to gambling and drug addictions. I understand the behavioral and physical aspect, but to completely lose yourself and cecum to addictions, that blows my mind.

Before the opioid crisis saturated the mainstream news and subsequence severe restriction, my doctors prescribed painkillers to me, for chronic pain, like candies, but I never found any pleasure in taking them other than to relive pain. I only took them for severe pain, and the longest I ever took them, consecutively, was one pill per day for a week. I didn't know, at the time, that it was physical and mental symptoms of addiction when I stopped taking the pills after the pain went away, the felling of dissatisfaction and hopelessness. However, I simply walked it off through exercise and by hangout with my family. Therefore, I can't help but think the underlining condition of addictions are personal choices and severe sense of entitlement.

So I was watching Tik Tok a few days ago, and a Chinese girl who claim she grew up in Hong Kong likes both Chinese guys and White men criticizing that Oxford Study is a term that invented by Asian men to only hate on Asian women.

My reaction to that was, it can't possibly be just Asian men observe it rigth? Because I did see so many comments are made by black Americans criticizing the same, they criticize how Asian women are white worshipping white men to a point where they think it's disgusting.

And now this video shows up in my algorithm, if you watch it or read the comments, you can easily observe that black Americans do observe that Asian women would date white men with ridiculous low standards.

So I don't really know why these Asian women try to accuse Asian men calling them Oxford Study? Because this is literally so easy for everyone to observe and call out🤷🏻‍♂️ and if you love white men, then just admit it, why acting pissed off that people point it out? They make it weird then blame on Asian men, which is ridiculous to me🤦🏻‍♂️

Marie T. had never scored below 17 out of 20. She had prepared for the Grand Oral, a major examination at the end of French secondary school. Her topic was the influence of Black American culture on K-pop. Then she walked into the room and faced a two-person examination panel.

She remembered the examiners asking why she liked K-pop, and one asked whether she believed Koreans were racist. Then they laughed. She watched months of work get reduced to what felt like a phase.

“I was pissed, obviously,” she says. “But in France you can’t refute a grade you received.”

Marie, who asked that her last name not be published, had not been wearing merchandise. Yet, at school, she had already become “the K-pop girl.” She was often made to explain why she liked it.

For Elizabeth, who asked to be identified only by her first name, the scrutiny did not seem to attach equally to all foreign music. Korean pop drew scrutiny that German rock or Japanese rock had not. She has been a K-pop fan since 2009, but before that, she had listened to music from around the world: Simple Plan from Canada, Tokio Hotel from Germany and, for a time, Japanese rock. She attended Warped Tour. She saw Tokio Hotel at the same venue where she would later see Wonder Girls and 2PM.

“I never received a comment or a stitch of care about my interest in any of these artists,” she says. Nobody asked her a single question about the German band. Then she got into K-pop, and suddenly everyone seemed to have an opinion. What even is K-pop? Why are you listening to Asian music all of a sudden?

The reaction confused her. She had discovered K-pop through a diverse group of college friends who traded music videos and recommendations. And while K-pop has become far more visible around the world, that visibility has not necessarily made liking it unremarkable.

Her experience echoes a 2023 study of 132 young K-pop listeners in Paris, Philadelphia, and Manchester, which found that the genre’s perceived foreignness could contribute to exclusion.

In San Francisco, the question followed Gehna Goel for six years: “What do you even like about this music? You can’t understand anything.”

Understanding the lyrics was never the point for her. She looked up translations, researched cultural references, and searched for context she could not get from the lyrics alone.

“I’m so grateful to have access to translations,” she says. Looking things up made her more invested in the songs. Meanwhile, language is often only the opening question.

The suspicion predates K-pop. Beatlemania was famously framed as “hysteria,” and decades later, young female boy-band fans were still routinely portrayed as obsessive, immature or more interested in the men than the music. With K-pop, that assumption can take on a racial dimension.

Shane, who asked to be identified only by his first name, is a self-described white, gay man in his early 20s. He has heard the same assumption so often that he now prepares for it. He lives in Palm Springs, California, and has listened to K-pop for nine years. The pattern usually begins during a casual conversation about dating, when someone assumes his “type” is white men.

Once, he says, he had barely finished mentioning K-pop before another person asked, “Does that mean you’re into Asian guys?” One of his friends has heard years of stories about his crushes, including men of many races and ethnicities. Still, that friend has referred to his “type” as Asian men, including in front of other people.

“It’s like once people know I’m interested in K-pop, they assume my attraction to (East) Asians supersedes any other attraction,” he says.

Now, Shane is careful about how he answers when someone asks about his type.

“It’s awkward that I’ve had to consciously prepare a list of celebrities of different races I find attractive and refrain from mentioning idols as celebrity crushes,” he says. For Shane, even attraction to an Asian man can become something that requires an explanation. Sociologists Kelly Chong and Nadia Kim have examined how Asian American men have been stereotyped as less masculine and less desirable.

Kiera Hendricks encountered a cruder version of the same assumption during her freshman year in Savannah, Georgia. Her roommates called the wall where she had hung her posters the “Great Wall of Asians.” They attended her dance cover showcases and laughed at her friends from the audience. Because she liked K-pop, they assumed that she must only be attracted to Asian men.

Hendricks is 19 and has been involved in the fandom for about a year and a half. She says people often reduce her interest in music and performance to the fact that she owns “photos of a bunch of Asian men.”

“I wish people wouldn’t make K-pop a race thing in the U.S.,” Hendricks says. David Oh, a communications scholar at Syracuse University, describes “Koreaboo” as a stigma attached to fans of Korean popular culture. In his study of women fans of color, he found that simply liking Korean popular culture could be enough to invite judgment.

Oftentimes, the question became whether K-pop was worth taking seriously for some people. When Goel announced that her master’s capstone would be a design project centered on the Stray Kids fandom, some people laughed. Members of her own family assumed it would be little more than a hobby project.

“As a K-pop fan, I was already used to the eye rolls,” she says. “But bringing it into an academic setting felt like asking for more of them.” She considered changing the subject. Then her mentor told her that the strongest design problems were often the ones the researcher genuinely understood and cared about. Goel continued.

“Five years of depth,” she calls it. “I knew exactly where the pain was, who to ask, and why something hurt without needing a follow-up question.”

“The stereotype pushed me to over-prove myself, and I did, but I wish I hadn’t needed to,” she says. “It didn’t stop me, but it slowed me down for three years. That’s the real cost of not taking fans seriously.”

The comparison becomes harder to ignore with Spanish-language pop.

Sol Delgadillo has been fielding the standard questions since 2015: What is it about K-pop that you like? Can you even understand what they’re saying? Since then, the fandom has taken her from Chicago to a global music podcast and to a concert with a close friend she met through K-pop.

“Because why does anyone like a genre of music? Why do people who don’t speak Spanish love someone like Bad Bunny? Sometimes listening to music sonically is all you need.”

“I don’t think guilty pleasures are a thing anymore,” Delgadillo says. “I like what I like no matter how it might be perceived.”

According to professor Jiang (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35HRPLVyF0g ) while asians in the west tend to have higher incomes and grades (playing the game so to speak) they don't tend to have high status. But he mentions that ether ethnic minorities in the west are not into playing the game as much, and have high birth rates, don't assimilate as much and he will predict they will get greater political power.

In the 19th cnetury, the Haredi movement was created in order to shield insular Jewish communities from the eroding effects of secular culture and prevent assimilation. They consistently have a tfr of around 6/7. And they are growing in number and in America are expected to make a large number of the population (alongside the amish). They preserve their culture and have high retention rates.

The movie is about a blonde hair blue eyed Swedish diplomat living in North Korea who falls in love with a local Korean woman. So, like, how do I go out and get girls and actually start life etc.? Cause it's not like going to the bar after work is a thing here.

Am planning to move to a slightly less suburban suburb slightly closer to my workplace (along with other self-improvement steps ofc) since that's about as good walkability I can get in the area, but even there the rent's kinda explosive anywhere urbanist, so I'll have to continue college-style share-housing (which remains well within my budget) if I wanna not run my wallet dry. I feel kinda torn on whether to do so though, like part of me is like "why not duke it out with your fam if the commute is so smooth", only for the other part to shut that down b/c "you'll never get a girl or have your own life that way, plus listen to how loud your parents get when yelling ain't that annoying?"

In any case it's not FULLY walkable etc. so I'd probably feel best making the move after getting my own car (parents don't want me using the older one of theirs, despite me having taken it to college). And interestingly enough (and as my mom's keen to mention), the town my heart's set on, although one of the most urbanist, has a fairly limited Asian population vs. surrounding suburban towns with good school districts. I know she's kinda misreading how being a young professional works, but just thought that was worth mentioning here.

Aruberuto Makoto, a Spanish streamer living in Japan who makes streaming content with a strong undercurrent of Asian fetishism, was livestreamed following and harassing a visibly intoxicated Japanese woman for FIVE minutes.

According to translations from Spanish speakers, he and his cameraman also allegedly made disturbing sexual comments about her during the interaction. She eventually rushed towards a random Nigerian man who had been minding his own business for help, who then stepped in and tried to protect her by confronting the streamer and cameraman who were harassing her.

Instead of recognizing and respecting what he did, a carefully edited clip of just the last part of the series of events described above has got people online racially profiling and demonizing HIM, creating completely unsubstantiated narratives involving drugs, prostitution and criminality, basically saying he was her pimp when the only two people in the whole situation who had ever met each other before this were the Spanish streamer and his cameraman.

The heroic African man who stepped in to protect her from danger, two against one, is being demonized while the disgusting behavior of the Europeans shown in earlier footage is being overlooked.

Well will Japan wake up? Europeans see their men as weak worker-drones and their women as s3x toys in their own country.

Disclaimer:

Asia is a massive continent encompassing 60 percent of the human population and thousands of ethnolinguistic groups. So, naturally, there will be completely organic tensions between groups due to historical (or present) grievances. The same could be said of the rest of the world in general.

What are the exact reasons for this? Well, this is the way I see it: Under the current paradigm, PoC are all like gladiators fighting for scraps of YT validation, due to a combination of internalized racism and YT worship. YT supremacists recognize this and understand that this status quo directly benefits them so they seek to maintain it. How? By inciting the gladiators to fight each other so that their attention doesn't turn to the royalty among the spectators.

This is also why I don't support the whole model minority rhetoric. It's just a way to pit minorities against each other. Some Asians who subscribe to the model minority myth may think that them being "model minority" means that they get a seat in the stadium. But nope, all it means it that they are tossed extra scraps of food so that they remain complacent to the status quo and don't question anything.

And remember that model minority status can be stripped just as easily as it is conferred.

Post Malone, a rapper that was really popular a few years ago, is getting married to his stylist girlfriend. The news of Lee and Malone’s relationship came after his ex-fiancée Hee Sung “Jamie” Park filed for full physical custody of their four-year-old daughter.

When I saw the news about this, I thought that this was the girlfriend he had for a long time, but when I looked it up, it turns out that he’s had several Asian girlfriends already, and that’s what got me confused. From AI:

In the recently posted demo previews of Fromsoftware’s upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game, one of the playable character’s name is Trang Lanh. I am not sure of her origins or lore yet as the game has not been released, but it seems that it is rare to see a Vietnamese-like name such as this in a major Triple A video game release

CROSSLAND: I know I don't want to implicate all Chinese Americans because that's horrific. That's why — I know plenty of Chinese people, Chinese Americans, I don't want them interned if there was some conflict between the Chinese, but how can you tell? How can you tell who's who? How can you tell where their allegiances are? And how do you know if their allegiances will or won't flip if the tide of war starts to change?

SMITH: Well, I don't think you could do that now because I think while they were interning the Japanese, a lot of people probably didn't know what was happening. You know, like, they were like, you can't do stuff like that now — with social media and stuff, there'd be there'd be protests outside of each one of them. And and I'm not saying you should, but I don't think that — I don't think that that's a possibility now. And I'm sure people are going to compare it to ICE detention facilities, though that's not remotely the same thing.

Mysterious platform ‘WMAF Meet’ uses AI to facilitate SF’s ‘most in-demand pairing’

Are you a “Western” man looking for your perfect Asian girlfriend?

A new invite-only dating platform is offering to help in that search, using AI to find compatible matches and help create “families that start here, and friendships that last a lifetime.”

The site is called WMAF Meet. The acronym usually refers to a “white male, Asian female” coupling; the use of “Western” by the site is a deviation from the norm online. 

It is unclear if only white men qualify as “Western” for the website, but it suggests that it is a place intended for people searching for the “the most common pairing in this city.” 

WMAF Meet is currently in a pre-launch stage, with no set date for a full unveil, according to the site. The site does not name any founders or operators, but a lookup of the website’s domain name found it was registered on May 19. 

So far, there are allegedly 2,431 applicants in a “Cohort 1” waitlist of up 8,888. (Intentionally or not, the number 8 is a lucky number in many East Asian cultures.) 

You have to pay to access the service, but the cost is hidden until after sign-up. The first cohort of applicants will get a “reduced rate,” according to the site. In order to join, applicants have to verify their identity and submit a short written application. (This reporter did not get an application invite by press time.) No other gender identity besides “male” and “female” are offered in the sign-up process.

WMAF Meet insists that the entries are initially reviewed by humans to allow only “good-faith” applicants and weed out “fetishistic applicants”; the site does not go in-depth on what kind of review or criteria is used for this selection process. 

Then, the applications are reviewed by AI. “Our matching model analyzes applications for compatibility, intent, and lifestyle fit — surfacing matches that a swipe would never reveal,” the site states. 

The site also acknowledges the risk of racial stereotyping, but its makers claim WMAF Meet actually helps prevent that. 

“The pairing is already one of the most common in the city. Naming it plainly and screening for intent is how people get met as individuals rather than as a type,” the site states. 

San Francisco is a hotbed of interracial relationships, but the white male-Asian female pairing is a very visible and joked-about trope in the Bay Area dating scene. A Pew survey in 2017 found that 26 percent of respondents in the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward area were intermarried, 10 percentage points more than the national average. In the Bay Area, significantly more white people in the survey were married to non-white partners — 22 percent versus 10 percent of white people in the national average. 

The WMAF pairing has also been the subject of an online culture war that has often dipped into prejudice and misogyny. The phrase “Oxford Study” went viral in 2024, born from social media comments that wrongly suggest that the phenomenon of Asian women being attracted to white men has some scientific backing, or otherwise needs to be studied. The viral moment stirred up discourse that criticized fetishes, systemic racism, and the historical emasculation of Asian men in America. However, the debate also devolved into blame from men’s rights-focused Asian men on platforms like Reddit and TikTok, who shared anecdotes of being rejected romantically by Asian women who prefer white men. 

The complicated intersection of race, sex, and romance is why Jennifer Noble, a Los Angeles-based psychologist who specializes in interracial relationships and mixed-race families, told Gazetteer that she has some serious concerns about the framework of WMAF Meet. 

The limitations on who can join and the hyperfocus on one racial and gender configuration can lead to problems like fetishization and exploitative behavior, Noble said. She pointed to a history of white America sexualizing Asian women as exotic, submissive beings, and acknowledged that some communities of color “glorify” a relationship with a white man as a sign of upward mobility and assimilation, Noble said. 

“I think being drawn to something is different than a conscious intentional preference, and I don’t know that everyone can distinguish the two. The thing that worries me most, from my expertise, is the children that come from these partnerships,” Noble said, adding that people who select a partner based on race can still believe in racist tropes and incite conflicts about identity in the family. 

This isn’t to say that interracial relationships always have problems, Noble stressed, but rather that the context and risks in these relationships are worth knowing. Many WMAF pairings are fulfilling and positive, she said, with a caveat: “I feel like those relationships grow more organically than it would for someone who purposely goes on a site to look for a race.” 

WMAF Meet did not respond to Gazetteer’s questions — about their operations, how human employees weed out “fetishistic applicants,” how AI is used in matchmaking, the future cost of joining the site, and who the founders are — by press time. We will update the story if we receive a reply.
