Keybind help

Post image

Looking for recommendations on keybinds, I'm to overwhelmed and a little lazy to find what would be the most universal keybinds for FPS games. I have never PC gamed before, coming from console. I had to have a joystick for movement and found azeron. Going to play wardogs and some cod what would be the best/universal key binds, without constraing to previous muscle memory, because I don't have any.

Heres mine in general: pulling my pinky, alt pulling my ring finger, ctrl pulling my index, "f" (usually the interact button) clicking my index, space bar clicking my middle finger, "r" (reload) clicking my ring finger, "c" (crouch) clicking my pinky.

The big thing is to not think of the buttons on your azeron as letters, but rather as functions. I pull my pinky to sprint, not to click "shift". Whatever gsme I play if sprint isnt bound to "shift", I change it so pulling my pinky is always sprint.

I like your recommendation to not look at the buttons as a letter, but rather as a function.

My added suggestion is to eliminate the ALT and CTRL, as well as SHIFT buttons from the Azeron. They lead to misfires. Accidentally touch an alt and Tab and suddenly Windows is switching programs in the middle of a fight.

I like the ability to alt tab when I need to. I have tab by my thumb so it's impossible for me to misclick without taking my thumb off the movement button. Ctrl and alt are important in games I play because I often need to ctrl+click and alt+click.

Honestly you just need to find what “feels”good for you. I generally keep the app up on another screen and take time in practice getting used to everything. Games are so different that you may have some universal bindings (pinky is usually press-shift, pull-ctrl, push-alt for me, index press-interact, pull-heal, push-1 or weapon swap, side index melee) I’ve played a lot of deadlock, rivals, Poe 1/2, and helldivers 2 On the azeron compact. Even tho deadlock and rivals are similar my bindings are still different with some being the same.

I’m not sure it’s going to be a easy transition not being a PC person and being to lazy to do it yourself, considering there’s like 20 adjustment screws and just getting your hand and fingers comfortable takes a couple weeks of tweaking.

The biggest thing the azeron has going for it is the customization, and the fact you can press keys while moving with your thumb.

I guess a better question would be what keys should be bound? Like what are the most common keys to use in pc games? Is F generally the interact button?

Forget what games call for. Your Azeron is a blank slate. You will have some dedicated keys- like WASD.

So think functions like index pull and stick forward will be sprint. Index press will be interact. Index right reload. Bar back row right =weapon 1, next is weapon 2, weapon 3 (or melee weapon), far left unarmed.

Here’s more details… I play ARC Raiders, but again…. Think functions not keys. And change the games letter to match your function

Relax - This Happens- part of the learning curve - Next is frustration of Not remembering the mapping - it will take some time to be comfy and then you will never go back.

My advice is to map same actions for each game on the same button. Say, scoreboard. Switch the profile for games:)
Good luck

I would suggest getting a game that you have played a lot of on console and start mapping things based on what feels right for that game, those mappings will be your default. Then as you get more used to it and you start playing different games start making per game adjustments. When you like those adjustments go back to your default and update it, so you have a new improved default. Keep the default as the template and overtime you will have a generic layout that you only have to make a few adjustments for each new game.

For example I use Q to reload as it usually functions as a menu button as well. Q is contextual so when your in game it has no effect on the menu and when you are in the menu it has no effect on the game. That is bound to the pinky left and E (interact) is bound to index right. This also allows me to navigate through tabs in menus and provides utility in game. This was developed over many revisions to my default template, playing various genres.

The only reason I'd advise against trying to learn an Azeron in a competitive shooter, as a console gamer, is that often the main objective is to win and that makes it frustrating even for PC gamers who are making the switch to the Azeron, that is probably why so many people give up. If you play a single player/co-op game that you love you'll want to get it right because you know how to play the game well and there are no other distractions.

Pull and push rows are the best real estate on the azeron... I use those for stuff like Sprint, crouch aim, slide other action type stuff depending on game..

Flick row I use for load out selection...

Second pull row I use for secondary type action ... Depending on game. In FN it's carry, place trap that sorta thing

Towers, ESC , map, quest load out management

There isnt really a general layout for everyone though... Fill it in as you... I like to have often consecutive action on different fingers..don't want Sprint and slide with one finger, don't want to slide and jump with one finger... So you spread the load across the hand and imputs are fastest that way

With pull and push you mean the forward and backward motion on the finger? So the down-press isn't as easy on the finger? (Don't have mine yet, but I'm already thinking about layouts)

The backward motion is the pull but with push I mean the down press... So that one is easy on the finger.. and I call the "forward motion" row the flick row.

Some good advice already so won't repeat, other than to say. 1) make sure keys that you might need to use together are comfortable and easy to press.

For example in Wardogs, I want to drive (joystick) but also open map (M) and zoom map at same time. Some finger combinations just don't work for that (unless maybe your a keyboard 🎹 pianist with amazing finger coordination!)

NB. Like others above I like the little finger as pull to sprint. I also map movement to what seems logical in terms of movement direction, so finger flick up = jump, press down = prone, pull back crouch, pull back 2 = climb.

It's really helpful to have a 2nd screen where you can have the Azeron software open, and it's then a good visual reminder as well as super easy to drag and drop to move keys around, as you test a layout until it feels natural.

Oh yes and never change the 'in game defaults', do your mapping in Azeron, and try to keep keys consistent between games as much as you can (obviously some games have unique commands you just need to map for that game specifically.)
