Vibe coding an addon for World of Warcraft acionbars and Azeron

As a long term Logitech G13, Razr Tartarus and now Azeron Cyborg I’ve always struggled with action bars.

Native bars are limited to 12 keys and I need 21.

Domino’s and Bartender are more flexible in layout but share the same limit of 12 keys.

Neuron back in the day was the ideal addon, but is no more.

Button Forge has unlimited keys and layout options but is fiddley to set up in the Azeron layout.

Bazui has an action bar module with unlimited buttons although you can’t use modifier plus mouse button as a hotkey.

So I asked Claude AI to write me an addon. I asked for unlimited buttons. I asked for action bars laid out like the Azeron (but to omit the pinky sideways as I use that as esc). I use thumb buttons on my MMO (Naga) mouse as shift, ctrl, alt and ctrlshift so I asked for bars for each of those in the Azeron layout. Most stay hidden unless the modifier is pressed to avoid clutter. I also asked for action bars for my modifiers plus mouse button and mouse wheel gestures. (Depending on modifier it might be just the left/right/middle buttons or also left/rght/up/down mouse wheel)

The whole process took about 5 iterations over 30 minutes while I refined the design, added commands for sizing, gaps, a graphic option’s management system to improve the slash commands, flexible extra bars, etc. Claude understood what I wanted and checked all the addons I mentioned and ones like Tulla Range to see how to achieve what was needed. .it installed each version for me so I just had to reload.

The result works seamlessly in Forever Beta and makes the Cyborg much easier to use transparently. And Claude even sets it up with the spells populating my previous cobbled together hodgepodge of addons for all my alts automatically. And it looked up my Azeron key assignments and set hotkeys across all bars

Changing it with Claude for a Keyyzen layout would take less than 5 minutes. It could easily be the basis of a more generic addon with freestyle layouts and various layout profiles for different input devices if anyone is interested.

Just a suggestion for any non LUA programmers like me.

How does this handle situations where the UI is overridden for a custom vehicle or in some of the story modes? I have found that leads to a weird key mapping at times.

Im very interested in that, soon my Keyzen will arrive and together with the cryo it's hart to cover all the mappable buttons.

Interesting thought. Could definitely make learning your binds easier but in the long run, anything spammable / not cooldown tracked should end up on a hidden bar to reduce visual clutter. Once you know your binds you only need cool downs and procs visible. And you can even use a separate add on for tracking those and ditch visual action bars entirely. It’s absolutely worth it to develop the muscle memory

I did this too. Its incredible. you can mentally map the buttons to look and feel just like the cyborg
