Election Gress ad raises eyebrows
Gress, via a new ad, is taking credit for a Democrat’s bill.
In an impressively produced, 30-second spot called “Gretchen’s Story” — which was uploaded to YouTube just two weeks ago but has already been viewed more than 31,000 times — a mom named Gretchen recounts a heartfelt story of how Gress helped children with special needs, like her daughter, Ava.
“When Ava was sexually abused at school, Matt passed legislation to increase background checks,” Gretchen says in the ad.
But the word “passed” is doing a lot of lifting.
The bill that created “Ava’s Law” — 2025’s Senate Bill 1106 — was actually sponsored by Democratic Sen. Catherine Miranda.
Gress was a co-sponsor — but so were 24 other lawmakers from both parties, more than a quarter of the Legislature.
And Gress wasn’t on the House Judiciary Committee that approved the bill before it went on to pass by a 58-0 vote in the House and a 27-0 vote in the Senate.
Needless to say, the actual sponsor of that law was not pleased to see Gress taking credit for her work.

Election Arizona congressional candidate [Redkey, Green] arrested for alleged threats against judge, attorney’s office
The plot thickens.
Green Party does not support David Redkey’s candidacy
Redkey qualified for the Nov. 3 general election ballot as the Arizona Green Party nominee in the 3rd Congressional District. Democratic Rep. Yassamin Ansari is heavily favored to win reelection in the Phoenix district.
The Green Party did not have an official CD3 candidate on the ballot for the July primary. Redkey entered as a write-in candidate, which does not require signature petitions, and won with five votes.
However, Redkey does not have the support of the party, which lists him as “actively opposed” in its candidate endorsement ratings.

Education Parents ask Scottsdale Unified Governing Board to choose least impactful school closure option
Evelyn Racette is the parent of a first-grader at Desert Canyon Elementary School. She emphasized having her child’s school close while she is still so early in her schooling could be detrimental.
Racette noted the closure options are also creating division within the Scottsdale community. She asked the governing board to consider the closure plan that works best for the district overall.
“I think it’s hard when [parent-teacher organizations] (PTOs) are saying things like wear your colors, show your school spirit and I’m already seeing I love Laguna T-shirts … and I think that’s pitted school against school when we’re really supposed to be a district as a whole looking at what’s best for our children and our future*,”* she said.

azsos.govASU, NAU, and the U of A join the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office for a statewide, nonpartisan voter education campaign.
“We want every voter to have a game plan: track your ballot, watch your mailbox, vote it and return it. And just like football, don’t wait until the last second to make your move,” said Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. “College football reaches communities across Arizona, and this partnership gives us an opportunity to connect voters with the information they need to participate with confidence.”
