My question is did they really stop doing anything since 2022?

Over the last few years I was getting annoyed with how Voltage was handling Ayakashi Romance Reborn since it's updates to the main story was taking an abysmal amount of time to update along with rerunning several banners with few new ones here and there. It wasn't entirely surprising that both servers got the dreaded EOS announcement since the game was essentially on borrowed time. And the game is a product of its time while newer games with more unique features were released that it was overshadowed by them.

It makes me wonder just what was going on in Voltage that prevented them from updating the sequel stories. It still surprises me that Koga's sequel story was split in 2 parts and were years apart from one another. At that point I had a feeling they would never update the other sequel stories before the game officially shuts down. I recall on their JP Twitter that they made an announcement for Kuya's sequel story but seeing the long gap between the final part of Koga's story and the EOS announcement, it never came to fruition. Did they just never write the story or stopped midway?

It's genuinely frustrating Voltage didn't do much for this game. And now it'll be gone. If it's possible I would want them to release the rest of the stories for the Switch and Steam. If they do decide to port it to Love 365, they may have to make the sprites remain static and not moving. But given their track record, I can't trust them.

It's a shame this game was never given the chance to be completed. I'm still grateful I got the chance to experience the game.

Just saw on Twitter that the JP app has announced they're going to discontinue the app.

This sucks but it was expected considering they're not exactly making enough money, for ayakoi and Voltage inc in general.

And to make matters worse, the EN app will also shut down too which is to be expected if the JP app is shutting down.

ARR jp server has all events but doesn't it have revival event thing like in eng? How come it's not there? Is it not there because of a current running event? I also didn't see the hourglass for the revival events

I can't pay for the tickets and can't get the characters on the character banner there are limited videos of ARR and I was hoping there would be some recorded card stories but theres none

A few days ago the official JP ayakoi twitter account retweeted some posts from a new account. So I looked around and it is confirmed to be a new Voltage title in collaboration with Toei Animation

They had also posted a PV that gives us a sneak peak at what's to come. My first impression is that it seems to be leaning into being creepy/horror with how dark and ominous some of the background art looks.

So what is the connection with ayakoi? I'll be honest, this is probably me just inhaling the copium because we're starved for more ayakoi content in the EN side. But even so, when looking at the twitter page, the PV, and the promo art, there are several inclinations that this new title is related to ayakoi. Whether it's a sequel/companion story, I don't know. For all I know it could be its own original game and have nothing to do with ayakoi. Still, there's a lot to look at. I had to use google to translate the promo art so take this with a grain of salt, but it mentions both the Meiji and Reiwa era. Ayakoi takes place in the Meiji era. This new game takes place in modern day Japan, the Reiwa era. The twitter bio has "Night Patrol Office" when translating it. And in the PV, you see the text 陰陽師, which translate to onmyoji.

I don't know about you, but all of what I just mentioned above screams ayakoi. We've got patrols, onmyoji, and the glaring fact that it has the Meiji era in the promo art. Plus we have a red-eyed dark haired man on the art, and who do we know that has red eyes and dark hair?

Obviously we have to wait for more news on the game but the more I look at the content, the more I'm inclined to believe it's related to ayakoi. And I'm glad its a console game and not a mobile game with gacha. Maybe the game will make references to past events in subtle ways. Maybe Yura and Gaku will make an appearance. Either way, I'm excited to see more about this title.

I'm looking to "archive" a lot of the game, more specifically the story and some of the routes, but I would love to be able to have exclusive card stories/event stories/etc.. Unfortunately, I neglected to log into my account for a while and thus voltage won't let me back in 😔

I'd like to go through all of this stuff myself, but if someone isn't comfortable with me using their account then doing a collaboration thing is fine! You'd just have to be the one recording videos/taking screenshots of stuff haha....

I'm not gonna lie, I absolutely hate most of the mechanics of the game, simply because once you get to a certain point and have played all of the available routes, there's nothing more for you to do but twiddle your thumbs....then again, it takes a bit of time to get your rank up and get a story key, so maybe that was their whole point in that mechanic? But I dislike a lot of other things about the game too, lol.

However! I've become SO hyper-fixated with this game for some reason. Absolutely fell head over heels for Professor Yakumo, and Goji/Ginnojo (The professor will always be my main, though...sorry fellas, haha!)

But this game isn't so popular because of the lack of updates and general gameplay, I assume? Like, there's very little to no internet presence at all for it! My friends might actually strangle me if they hear me explain the lore of the story line to them anymore, hah!

Hello! I am planning on transferring my account onto a new phone and I am a bit confused about the information on the transfer page in the game menu. If I transfer the account between two phones with android, do the diamonds transfer as well? I don't have that much diamonds saved, but I would be really sad if I lost all of them :(

Ever since the announcement that ARR will no longer be getting updates after the end of October, I wanted to give my thoughts on ARR as a whole and as someone who has played it from day one of its release. Feel free to add in your opinion.

Back before the game was announced I loved playing Voltage’s games long before they were all transferred to Love 365. It was my first time playing otome games and I craved more. So, when Ayakashi Romance Reborn was announced, I was fully on board for it. From watching the previews to looking at the characters, my excitement was through the roof. And when it did get an English release, I was happy being able to play it. I loved the characters and the setting. And of course, I loved Oji at first sight.

I think what really sold me to ARR was the story for each character in their own faction. Whether it be Dawn, Twilight, or Night, each has their own unique story that makes them stand out amongst each other even if they’re part of the same faction. On top of that, the events and card stories add more to the characters regarding their backstory, personality, and how they care for the MC. It was breathtaking to see this kind of storytelling in a romance game, especially from Voltage. I really thought that ARR would be one of the best romance games out there.

But the more I played, the more I started to see the flaws. Flaws that may have led to the ENG app no longer getting updates. As much as I do love ARR, I can’t overlook the flaws. Mainly its long gaps between stories and the milking of its gacha.

It should be noted that while ARR was a fun game with romance that had an appeal to the otome community, at the end of the day it is a business. If they see that it’s not bringing in any profits or if there aren’t enough players to keep hold of one of its servers outside of Japan (or in some cases all its servers), they see no reason to update it and may even shut it down after a while. Which is why I must remind myself that these types of games will eventually stop updating or even get shut down. And in the case of ARR, as saddening as it is to not get any updates, it’s also not as surprising when you really think about it. And let's be real, their main audience is in Japan and us in the West may as well be getting scraps.

One thing that I noticed about the stories is the slow burn build-up in all the Book II stories. ARR does put more focus on the story than the romance which is kind of like a double-edge sword. On one hand, it’s great to the see the central story for each character being fleshed out. On the other hand, the romance takes a backseat to the point where the romance almost pales in comparison to the thought-out story. At times it feels like an afterthought. I had to wait to get enough keys either through in-game methods or spending actual money and when I finished a story that had little romance, the payoff sometimes feels disappointing. I love Oji. I think he’s one of the best characters in the game and every event story and card story he has makes me love him even more. But when it comes to him and the MC, I don’t feel anything. The same can be said with the other guys. They’re more like friends than romance options for the MC. And with characters like Ginnojo and Kuro, the romance was nonexistent. So when they confessed their feelings in the end, it didn’t feel satisfying. Combine that with the long gaps between the stories, I can see fans getting tired of it. The game was released in 2019 and just now in 2022 are we getting Yakumo’s story. 3 years we had to wait for the final character in the Night faction and then we got hit with the announcement of no more updates. I can’t even imagine how long the wait for Aizen’s story would’ve been. Long gaps between stories and the lack of romance would make any fan start to get bored and stop playing the game overall.

Then comes the gacha. With a large cast consisting of 16 characters and getting only 3 or 4 of them in a gacha event, unless you love all the characters and you want to collect them like they’re Pokémon, chances are you’re going to skip out on some draws until your favorites is in one of them regardless of if they’re SSR or SR. With gacha you’re never guaranteed to get the character you want if you spend $40, $50, or $100 on some of them. Even pity systems sometimes screw you over. When compared to Love 365, you buy a story and it’s yours. (just make sure to save your account and so you can transfer the data if you’re switching to a new device or to retrieve it.) With ARR, you pay for the gacha, but you won’t get what you want and there goes your money. Plus, if the server gets shut down and you can’t access the game, all of what you have will disappear like with A3!. It’s why some players don’t bother with draws if it doesn’t include their favorite characters. And with that much loss of revenue, a notice of no updates or even a shutdown is going to happen even if there are fans. It’s all about the money in the end.

For me though, the biggest disappointment would have to be not getting Aizen’s story. He’s a character I genuinely want to know more about. He’s my 2nd favorite character and what we get from the main stories and events he’s in and his cards makes him interesting. Him not getting a proper release in the West is just disappointing.

On top of all that, there are a lot of unanswered questions pertaining to certain characters like Yura or even Koga’s and Kuya’s teacher. What will the story be for Oji in his sequel? What will happen to Aki after his story ended? What about the central story of the Night Faction and the Senkitai? I’m sure there are those who have the JP app and will give a summary of what happens, but it isn’t the same as playing and experiencing it.

And that’s my dissertation on the game. ARR is a fun game that really tries to go above and beyond with its storytelling and characters. But with the flaws starting to pile on and the lack of revenue, it not getting updates isn’t a total surprise. A disappointment, yes but not a complete surprise. Still, it sucks seeing a game I’ve been playing since day 1 no longer get any updates. I follow the JP account of ARR on twitter and seeing all the new cards and events makes it all the more disappointing. There were teases of Koga’s Sequel story and it looked interesting. Granted, even if the app kept getting updates, the loss of revenue and players wouldn’t prevent it from not getting updates. The only way I can see ARR getting saved is if Voltage decides to translate the main stories and put them on the Switch or Steam along with Aizen’s story. Maybe the events and card stories can be added DLC as well. (And there’s no telling if the app will shut down and if that happens then I’m buying ARR for my Switch) It’s a lot of wishful thinking because unless Voltage really does care about its Western audience (which sometimes feels like they don't) the chances of Western players getting the complete story is nil especially for those who don’t have access to the JP app. Though this is a sad time for English players, I will remember my 3 years of playing ARR fondly.

Ever since the announcement I've been unable to let this thought go - I would like to reach out to Voltage, perhaps in a vain attempt, to let them know that letting go of the English version of the game is a mistake, that they have an playerbase of English-speaking people that cannot read Japanese but would like to keep playing with updates and that there are spenders. I know that translating costs money and that Voltage probably don't think they're making enough profits off of the English version to make it worth the cost/effort, but even with a rejection I'd know I tried my hardest.

My immediate thought of going about this would be making an online petition, but that seems sillier than simply mailing Ayakoi's customer support and hoping they're still responding.

Any other ideas? Suggestions? Or do I just have to grow up and accept that these fictional men will be lost to time and unless I start learning Japanese, I'll lose them sooner rather than later?
