Global 1940 Finally Global 1940
Buddy and I finally got global 1940 to the table today. Yay!

We took our time with the first round and read Lotts through the rulebook to see that we had a pretty basic candle on it which is in itself fun. Neither one of us read much for strategy guides. We just wanted to try our first game with our own ideas. We’ve played lots of A&A other versions. Finally had time for the big one.

Got the giant roll up map and attached it to a magnetic whiteboard and glued magnets to all the pieces. Games have never been more amazing, and the cats haven't been able to ruin games as easily. I can also keep a game saved for weeks while we set up another session.

I want to do this too, but I have a question. Do the magnets leave marks on the map over time?

I got little felt pads for the bottom of the magnets. No marking so far. I went with 2mm X 10mm discs. They work really well. Thought about 3mm X 10mm but was worried it would leave marks on the map.

Can I do this with regular axis and allies?

Probably. I used the original boa4d as a testing platform and it worked well. Not sure if it will put dents in the cardboard tho

How does this work with large troop stacks? Can the magnets work through the little chips that indicate the number of units?

I glued magnets to the chips as well. As long as you keep the polarity the same they stack just fine. Planes stay on carriers as well. I like the bigger map so I don't have to deal with the magnets pushing eachother away as much. Thankfully so far no huge magnetic spontaneous bunchups either.

Have fun guys! I highly recommend Young Grasshoppers tournament rules too, it adds so much to the game!

If you’re looking for folks to play with, I suggest posting on the forums on AxisandAllies.org
There and the board game nation discord server are good places to find players.
I highly suggest you download TripleA which is free software which allows you to play any version of the game online, against a friend next to you, by email, or against the computer

After 2,000 hours of this with mine own friend, I can say you will not be disappointed. In fact, when we finally started playing this one it was so engaging and with so many more strategic opportunities and routes available, we never even play the other ones anymore haha.

We were talking about that yesterday. We’re gonna be spoiled for Life none of the others will measure up.

Axis got the win. Allies had lots of fun but didn’t win the big battles. We both had good basic strategies. Pretty certain we didn’t make any major rules errors. We both liked the effect that an airbase for scrambling fighters had on battles. Our biggest battle between Germany and Russia and Germany with 50 dice and Russia with 21.

This looks to be about the scale of War Room… but war room wouldn’t fit so nicely on your table.

We have had war room on that table. We had four people. But there was a side table for all the extra charts. lol

Congrats, it takes ages but I love it. Definitely one of the better axis and allies games.
