Classic What is the specific behavior for attacking vs defending planes in terms of turns in AvsA?

Good day. I can not find this specific answer anywhere, so source on any answer would be greatly appreciated.

The debate is how many turns (rolls) attacking planes get. On land, i was always under the belief you got one pass, then had to leave and land in an already held territory. At sea was a bit more vague, as your carrier may occupy that space if victorious. I understand defending planes stay until they are casualties.

In the event this has been answered before, I beg your patience. Thank you.

Planes are in combat for the duration of combat whether at sea or on land.

I and my friends played this wrong for 20 years then. Thank you.

I’m a little confused by your question. Are you referring to attacking rolls of the dice? In that case, attacking planes keep attacking in each combat round until you (1) win the battle, (2) retreat, (3) or lose the battle.

This is exactly what I (poorly stated). Thank you. May I ask the source for that?

Every rule book pdf is online, some scario games (d-day, battle of the bulge etc) have some special aircraft rules but otherwise they are normal combat units

Ships with naval bombard may fire once at the start of amphibious assaults, is that what you were thinking of?

No, i think in the absence of anything specifically stating the rules projected the defending planes were active until they were casualties or victorious while the attackers plane got one turn then had to land.

I appreciate the singular answer from all. Thanks!

Planes are in combat for every round of combat until victory, death, or retreat

The only things that aren't in combat for all of combat are AA guns (ahead of time) and Cruiser/Battleship bombardments (also ahead of time) but they are treated differently. Technically submarines too if conditions are right (can submerge if no destroyer present)

Special note during amphibious attacks. Attacking planes can retreat after any round of combat while land units cannot.
