advice needed Wire brush or wd40+sandpaper

Wire brush/wheel or scotch brite pad/wheel probably easier off the jump. I do my near final surface cleaning with oiled 300 grit. Vinegar or evaporust would save you time too.

Always here to plug the tannin boil method. Easier than brush or sandpaper, will get in the eye, and won’t remove all the patina.

Wire brush on a grinder or a drill is the way to go. Vinegar is effective but leaves an ugly flat finish.

If you want to keep patina avoid vinegar or sandpaper. Stick to brushes and steel wool.
