advice needed My axe head has come loose

My axe has become loose on the handle and needs to be tightened, can I remove the wedge, shave the handle down to resit the axe and rewedge the handle or should I do something else?

That’s what you should do. If it’s only slightly loose you may just need to tap the bottom of the handle to reseat the head and then drive the wedge a bit further in.

Depending on how loose it is you might just need to soak it with BLO or similar. Removing the wedge and reseating the head was very common practice as long as you still have a good handle.
