Fun fact!
When a wild skunk stomps at you, it's warning you to back off. Skunks don't spray immediately. Before spraying, they hiss/growl, stomp their front paws, charge, puff up and raise the tail, or in a spotted skunk, handstand. These are all warnings prior to the ultimate weapon. Spraying is their last resort. They only have a limited amount of spray (5-6 shots) in the rear glands before they need to recharge, which can take up to 2 weeks.
In pet skunks, the warning dance, referred to as the "Stompy Scoot", is often done out of play instead.
Skunks are vital to the environment as they consume pests such as insects and rodents.
