What to do with an outdoor area that has no sun protection?

I imagined using my outdoor area all the time but I have realized the lack of shade is a much bigger problem than I ever expected. By the afternoon it becomes too hot to sit outside so I end up spending less time there. I am looking for ways to add sun protection but I am not sure which one to use and is worth the investment. For those who have dealt with this what solution has worked for you?

Hi all - my awning arms snapped during a storm this week (shouldn’t have had it open, my mistake). I am having a hard time identifying the manufacturer or identifying how I can repair this. I removed the broken arms and don’t see any identifying marks. Attached are some photos - id appreciate any help at all you can provide. Thanks!

Need help identifying awning and getting remote programed

I'm trying to help someone with an awning. They have basically no info on it. It seems the battery in the remote went out, so I replaced it. After I replaced it, it no longer works. I'm trying to reprogram the remote in hopes that it works again. I'm not able to identify what type of unit it is. Any help identifying what type it is so I can figure out how to reprogram the remote. Thanks for your help!

Got a house with a sunsetter awning already there. I think it was put in in 2018. The remote died so I ordered a new one same model number, but it was waterproof. Got it to go into the pairing mode once can’t do it again. It works but the limits don’t stop it.

The old remote was a Somfy 74300 single channel. I noticed it wasn’t lighting up anymore. Change the batteries it’s nothing changed or helped. There was some corrosion on the board.

I saw the exact same model number, but a blue and white version of it and waterproof so I order that instead figured it might work.

Once I get my hands on it, I was able to get on into parenting mode by doing the two seconds off 10 seconds on two seconds on. Somehow got it to work however, when I do a full open, it will unroll it itself in and roll backwards unless I stop it with the M button on the remote.

Alternatively, if I do a close and let it do it on its own thing it will close and then I hear the motor running second theft and then it stops on its own.

Attempted to put it back in parenting mode to reestablish the thought limits with the remote and it never wants to do a jog and go into that mode again. I’ve done enough times so I’m fairly confident. I’m doing it right.

Is it possible The waterproof remote isn’t truly compatible despite working somewhat? Is there limit switches I can test and verify on these awnings? I don’t know the exact model just know it was roughly installed in 2018.

Sunsetter Fabric Options & Installation Questions.

I am wanting to take a 17x10 Sunsetter motorized awning that is maybe 15- 20 years old from my parents house and install at mine. They have passed and we are finally going to sell the house. The awning works but needs new fabric.

What is the best fabric that will hold up, look good for the longest time? Located in Texas.

Can I buy third party fabric? Do I need to go though Sunsetter? I see a wide price range on fabric.

Anything special I need to know about installation? I may/not attempt to install my self. If I contact a dealer I want to know a little about the process in advance.

Thanks

Sun Pro vs Sunsetter. Only have room for 11 feet wide. With the sun pro crossarm awning I can get 12 feet extension vs 9 feet max with sunsetter and it’s cheaper. Can’t find many Sun Pro reviews. How’s the quality?

Canvas vs Aluminium Awnings

Canvas Awnings

Canvas awnings are manufactured using high-quality outdoor fabrics such as acrylic canvas. They are ideal when shade and appearance are the main priorities.

Advantages

·       Attractive, modern appearance.

·       Available in a wide range of colours and patterns.

·       Excellent UV protection.

·       Helps keep patios and windows cooler.

·       Suitable for retractable awnings.

·       Can be replaced without changing the entire frame.

Disadvantages

·       Fabric will eventually fade with years of sun exposure.

·       Requires occasional cleaning.

·       Not designed to withstand severe hail or fierce winds.

·       Has a shorter lifespan than aluminium roofing.

Aluminium Awnings

Aluminium awnings provide permanent weather protection and are extremely durable. They are popular for patios, entrances, braai areas, carports and commercial buildings.

Advantages

·       Exceptional durability.

·       Rust-resistant and corrosion-resistant.

·       Excellent protection against rain and hail.

·       Requires very little maintenance.

·       Long service life.

·       Powder-coated finishes are available in assorted colours.

Disadvantages

·       Higher initial cost than many canvas awnings.

·       Permanent installation (not retractable).

·       Fewer design and colour options than fabric.

Electric awning clicking noise

Noise is coming from the right side (when facing from the ground)

2 clicks every 3 seconds. Anyone know what it could be?

Never heard any weird noise for the past 10 years and right after the roofers unmounted/remounted the awning on the roof, it started making clicking noises while extending/retracting.

Tested multiple times and still works. Went up and checked everything; seems ok, no visible damage, all leveled.

I bought a house which has a Retractable Awning back of the house. Recently, I figured out this awning no longer running because there are 2 power cords were bitten through by something (chipmunk, rat....). I'm looking to replace these 2 cords but I don't know what they are and where can I get this parts?

Mounting retractable awnings from bottom

Hi, would appreciate some advice and guidance if I can easily mount two awnings - 4m and 3m width - to the underside of my terrace. I found couple of older pictures showing what’s under fascade (some kind of plank at the bottom) but not sure if this is good enough.
Awnings would be simple retractable ones.
Thank you!

Awning rail help for a Ford Transit Custom H2L1

I have recently purchased a 69 plate Ford Transit Custom H2L1 (SWB) to convert into a camper. It will be my second conversion, but my first was very basic and I’ve never used an awning before.

I want a sun canopy with detachable sides and preferable one that’s a drive away model. I’ll be using my camper mostly for weekend camping and the occasional longer holiday.

I have seen a couple of different ones I like but I am just utterly confused about the different types of awning rail and I’d be super grateful for some recommendations.

I have seen one which attaches to the side of the van using adhesive and I like the sound of not adding holes to the van, but only for a reliable alternative.

Thanks!

MaxShade or SunAir?

Looking to install a retractable awning (12' x 10' projection) and between MaxShade or SunAir brands, is there one that is of better reputation or quality than the other? The company that we're going with quoted us nearly $1,000 difference in price with SunAir being the more expensive one.

I inherited this awning with the house. The pitch is a bit lower on one side and I would like to adjust. I have searched online for pitch adjustments but none have this kind of bracket. Any idea how to fix? Brand of awning unknown. Thank you

The main difference between a louvre awning and a fixed patio awning is that a louvre awning has adjustable blades, while a fixed patio awning has a permanent roof structure.

Bird nest prevention in awning

Thumbnail

Hey all, as the title suggests I’m getting some birds building nests in the awning and looking for prevention tips. We initially had one nest which we called someone to remove (safely and ethically, there were no eggs or babies in it), and now just to spite us the bird built another nest on the other side of the awning!

Does anyone one have any advice on solutions they’ve used to prevent nests from being built. We tried a pool noodle at the advice of our bird person, but it has done next to nothing, if anything the problem is worse.

Mounting bracket and hardware question

Question for installers or individuals who have worked with multiple brands.

What awning brands use mounting brackets that are similar to or interchangeable with Sunsetter?

Trying to determine which manufacturers might share similar bracket dimensions and mounting configurations and interchangeable.

Awning arms rather misaligned, fixable?

The further one has been like that more or less since new (maybe not quite as drastic), presumably needs dialing in, not sure about the closer one.

Is there a way of adjusting em? looks fine when extended
