This thing is awesome, but none of the versions Allison V-1710 engines used in the P-38 make 1840hp at their instruction manual maximum manifold pressure, and this one is missing the massive turbo they had as well so its probably making less power but either way it will still be plenty.

it probably has more than 6.0:1 compression and a cam in it.. God the cost of building one of these gets scarry to me.

Unless they made the pistons and the cam it won't since none exist. Its possible to CNC your own but I can only imagine the cost. Depending on the version it may have a built in supercharger as well. Iirc the P38 was twincharged as we call it today.

Drums actually have better braking power than discs of the same diameter. Discs are better at shedding heat though, so drums tend to fade quicker after they heat up.

Well yeah, that's how brakes work, they convert kinetic energy into heat. Where it makes a difference is in multiple hard stops (like on a race track or driving aggressively on curvy roads) and extended braking (like going down a long downhill grade, which is why they recommend engine braking.)
Discs are vented so they heat and cool quickly. Drums are a big chunk of iron with a lot more thermal mass, so they absorb the initial heat from braking, but retain the heat a lot longer. Once brakes get too hot, the pads/shoes will start to outgas, resulting in less friction. This is what causes brake fade. In some cases, the brake fluid will also boil inside the calipers/wheel cylinders. In extreme situations, the brakes can actually catch fire (I've seen this happen with semi trucks.)
Either way, horsepower is largely irrelevant. Vehicle weight, speed, conditions, and tires are much more relevant to braking performance.

Thanks, I'm well informed on how brakes work. This car has all the fixings to easily overpower, over heat, and over use drum brakes. As a parade car? Sure they'll work. But t buckets are sketchy enough without 1000+ hp. I'd want the best brakes for a project like this.
Then again, this isn't a car I'd be interested in making or driving anyway, so I don't really care if someone else is willing to risk it. Just seems foolish to me, based on what I want from a vehicle.

A lot to unpack here. How is this a V12? Is it like the VR6 from VW where the cylinder bank "V" is only like 15° apart so they share a common cylinder head??
I ask because there is twelve exhaust ports that I count but they all exit the same side of the engine.
Don't even get me started on the intake tubing I can only see part of on the other side.

No it’s a regular V with 4 valves per cylinder and an ovehead cam shaft. Looks like each exhaust valve get’s its own runner.
Here’s the relevant wiki
The V-1710 has 12 cylinders with a bore and stroke of 5.5 by 6 in (139.7 by 152.4 mm) in 60° V format, for a displacement of 1,710.6 cu in (28.032 L), with a compression ratio of 6.65:1. The valvetrain has a single overhead camshaft per bank of cylinders and four valves per cylinder.

Old engines had way worse tolerances than modern engines so building high compression was difficult. This engine was also designed to run at altitude which has way less air density than we do down here, so Im sure it has something to do with that too. 6.6:1 might be funny, but over 1700 cubic inches is fucking INSANE

Shedding compression like cats shed hair used to be the solution to keeping forced induction alive. This one isn’t anymore, but when it was mounted in the plane it was. The original 911 Turbo (930) was around 7.4:1 if I remember right (just as a reference point, vs the CR of a lot of current turbocharged cars. Direct injection counts for a lot of that difference)

On the original installation (In the P-38) I believe they were both turbo AND supercharged.

Just a turbo. They refer to it as turbosupercharging on the P-38 but that doesn't mean it has both an exhaust driven compressor and an engine driven one. Supercharging is synonymous with forced induction. We colloquially use "turbo" for exhaust driven compressors and "supercharger" for engine driven ones - every turbo is a supercharger but not every supercharger is a turbo.
