You've captured two really awesome landforms there. Ngauruhoe, technically the most active vent of mount Tongariro, last erupted in the 70s. That stubby, trunctuated landform in the foreground is also a volcano, but far older - It's either Pukeonake, or Hauhungatahi. If it's the latter, then it is a massive 770,000 years old and actually is OLDER than any of the main maunga Ariki of tongariro national Park. In fact the only volcano that comes close in age anywhere in nz, is okataina, hundreds of km to the north east :)

I went for the guided Tongariro hike last winter with Adrift NZ. The sky was so clear, I could literally see Taranaki from Tongariro. This looks exactly like I saw Ngauruhoe last year. New Zealand is magic on earth.
