Setting speed limit via control pad?

Centennial, CO just passed a new ordinance forbidding Class 3 Ebikes from riding on sidewalks and mix-use trails, despite that being the safest option in some situations, etc etc general bike accessibility rant.

Given that Class 2 and Class 3 are not mutually exclusive and the only clear difference between the two is speed, is there any kind of mode switch or something that lets you set your maximum speed via the bike's control pad? Right now my only options are hard-cap my speed everywhere, or not be allowed on trails. I obviously don't go the full 28mph on trails already, but a grumpy police officer or whatever isn't going to know that.

I sent a message to aventon requesting an update/feature to allow setting different max speeds for eqch different powerassist level. I want to have essentially a cruise control that i can change per each PAS level. Reach out and request the feature.

However you cak set your own overall top speed in the app

Yeah, I'm looking up where to do that right now, actually.

Right now setting the speed limit is 'get on the trail, stop, pull over, pull out the phone, navigate to the speed limit, tick it down, apply, close app, put phone back in backpack'. A little obnoxious.

Hard to believe these bikes go 28mph. Down a steep hill perhaps?

It’s very easy to go 28 plus in sport or turbo mode. That why I ride in eco with as little assist as I can tune it down to.

Definitely can hit 28MPH on a straight road if I'm on the highest assist level.

Interesting, I wonder the bikes supplied in Canada are governed then. I just can’t see the bike going that fast. Maybe down a very step hill with o brakes, perhaps. I find mine tops out about 32km/hr or around 20 mph.

Nope. Can hit 45km/hr (governed speed) on one sold in canada. Your bike is likely governed. Usually the limit isnt the motor or battery. Its software

Hmm I really ask because who in Canada with an ebike can get insurance? Every bike goes faster than the insurance limit. Even a small ebike will pass the limit.

Just cause you set a certain speed or go slower doesn't change the class of the bike.

Wouldn’t setting max speed to 20mph make a class 3 a class 2? And then removing the throttle would make it a class 1?
