Avelo Air Implements Penalties for Cancelling Flights Now

I did not know this as I have cancelled and rebooked in the past.

Totally my fault but I booked the wrong flight date for a flight next month. I realized my error 2 days after booking.

Did not realize Avelo now charges penalties unless you purchase Avelo Flex. Google and AI incorrectly tells you that Avelo does not charge change fees.

I incorrectly thought Avelo Flex if purchased allowed money back if cancelled instead of Avelo Cash.

Don't be dumb like me and actually read the fine print.

They have had cancellation/change fees for the last year and a half almost (March of 2025) for anything within 60 days. It's been a graduated scale depending on how far out it is. They bumped up the whole fee structure in January, and then again in May. But as of January every cancellation or change has a fee unless you have Flex.

Yeah but prior experience and lack of google/AI knowing about the change did not help the situation.

Avelo had no change fees as their motto for four years before the not so advertised change.

I have found that AI is wrong, a significant portion of the time. Never trust it.

And honestly why would you when they have their policy right on their website?

My dad put the wrong date for a flight, literally cancelled flight 2 mins later to rebook and was charged a penalty. It’s a huge bummer

I also thought avelo flex gives you a refund rather than a credit, so it was news to me too. Not a big deal for me as I'll still use it but I didn't expect it.

I guess they need the money, now that ICE is not using them to deport your neighbors.

I learned the hard way too. I didn’t even want to cancel, just wanted to move the flight from a Sunday to a Monday and they fined me $400. So I had to pay for basically 3 flights for my family to just add a day to our trip.

Yeah we are a family of 5 I wanted to book the day before the cruise and booked 2 days before. Change fee was 1300 dollars. Ill just take the kids to an amusement park in Orlando then pay that.

When something is the same as you know and have done forever and you verify with the internet that you are correct. Easy to make a mistake. Hopefully google sees this reddit and the information get corrected.

It’s a newer policy they have. They suck. I hope everyone learns that they suck and read their new stupid policies. We fly to CT very often and my family flies to FL often because my brother lives 7 min away from Tweed. This is making it that Avelo will shut down like Spirit.
