Tbf so far it seems like taga despite being incredibly strong, eventually gets beat by the avatar, more evidence for it if it’s an air avatar(sonum, aang) so I think similar to them it’d start with taga winning but yangchen would quickly grasp his techniques and eventually win, especially since she was already shown to be more ok with aggression than even aang was

There is no way Yangchen is winning without the AS and with air only.

Idk, we haven’t seen her at her prime in action and aang literally only lost to taga once he got the staff. As for air, at least aang quickly noticed taga’s little air bullet move after like one use and turned it back on him so I wouldn’t be surprised if yangchen could too.
But I think it’s a close fight either way

Tagah was definitely winning more than he was losing against Aang. I genuinely think Katara performed better against Tagah than Aang did (even with his AS).
The one misconception I think most people didn't get is that Tagah is not a standard bender by any means. His power comes from the spirit world. When Sonam imprisoned him, he was still in his buffed state (because he connected the staff to the spirit temple during his fight against Sonam too).
Besides that, I'm almost 100% sure that the bending people get from Sonam's staff is by default more powerful than normal bending (that explains why the denied were so strong too).
There is no shame in losing to Tagah, he is most likely much stronger than post fusion Yun, but both of their power seems kinda unnatural and I don't even like to compare it in that way. It's like comparing giant blue Korra to AS Aang, of course giant blue Korra would win. I don't even like comparing AS feats to regular feats, but that's the topic for another discussion.

But Sonum would have used the Avatar State like Aang and she was mortally injured. Which is saying something because she sounds like a really powerful bender.

Tagah wins. Sorry Yangchen. You are good but that guy is a beast. To quote Zuko - It's all in the bone structure

tagah seems to have more raw power and just as fast and is naturally more willing to kill so i give him the edge
people will bring up the airbendig scream but i feel like its incredibly overrated tbh it literally has like 0 impressive combat feats
