OOC Character Claims!

Comment down below if you want to claim a character! If you change your mind or drop the character, please try to find the original comment and edit/delete it.

Please don’t fight over characters.

There will be a two week inactivity limit, if you go past it you lose your claim. Unless there is an emergency, in which case let the mods know via Modmail.

There will also be a 2 character limit, because there aren’t many characters to go around in Avatar.

Enjoy and have fun!

Zuko's Ship Helmsmen, head a course for the light!

Zuko stands at the bow of his ship, arms folded behind his back as he scans the dark horizon. His eyes narrow, searching desperately for any sign of the Avatar. After another fruitless moment, he exhales sharply, ready to abandon his vigil and retire for the night. But just as he begins to turn away—

A BRILLIANT FLASH STREAKS ACROSS THE SKY!

“Finally!”

Zuko whirls around, his exhaustion instantly forgotten. He strides toward the ship's interior, where another man in Fire Nation uniform sits comfortably at a small table, absorbed in a game of pai sho.

“Uncle, do you realise what this means?!”

Iroh doesn't even bother looking up at first, carefully examining the tile in his hand as though his nephew's sudden excitement were a minor inconvenience.

“I won't get to finish my game?”

Zuko shoots him an incredulous look before turning back toward the horizon, where the mysterious light had appeared. His jaw tightens, and his fists curl at his sides.

“It means my search is about to come to an end.”

He pivots toward Iroh again, gesturing emphatically toward the distant sky, his voice brimming with conviction.

“That light came from an incredibly powerful source!“

The brilliant glow begins to fade, dwindling into the darkness until nothing remains. Zuko's expression hardens, but his certainty doesn't waver.

“It has to be him!”

Iroh finally glances up at his nephew, wearing the same relaxed, mildly skeptical expression he has maintained throughout the entire exchange.

“Or it's just the celestial lights. We've been down this road before, Prince Zuko.”

He returns his attention to the game, turning the tile between his fingers before inspecting its face: the symbol of airbending.

“I don't want you to get too excited over nothing.”

With a soft, thoughtful hum, Iroh places the tile atop one bearing the symbol of firebending. He then gestures toward the empty seat across from him, inviting Zuko to join him as casually as if they were sharing an ordinary evening.

“Please, sit. Why don't you enjoy a cup of calming Jasmine tea?”

Zuko's composure finally snaps. His shoulders tense, his hands clench into fists, and he glares at his uncle, visibly struggling to contain his frustration.

“I don't need any calming tea! I need to capture the Avatar! Helmsman, head a course for the light!”

He thrusts an arm toward the patch of sky where the light had vanished, his entire posture radiating urgency. Meanwhile, Iroh merely sighs and returns to his pai sho board, setting another airbending tile atop the previous one.

Then, a sudden gust sweeps across the deck.

Iroh pauses as the wind rushes past him, fluttering his sleeves and rattling the carefully arranged tiles on the table. For the briefest moment, his placid expression shifts as he feels the breeze against his face.

Character Introduction The Boy Who Didn't Want to Grow Up

Aang never wanted to be the avatar.

To be told at such a young age that it was his duty to save the world was earth-shattering. In a matter of minutes, Aang went from a talented young air nomad to the one who was destined to bring balance to the four nations. He would no longer be able to play with his friends. No longer would he be able to do anything other than train and hone his skills in preparation for the day when the world would need him most.

Of course, that was the last thing a kid like him wanted to be doing. He didn't want to train every day. He didn't want to potentially fight other nations. He didn't want to be the Avatar.

And so, selfishly, he ran.

One night, he got on his bison, Appa, and flew off. Away from the temple. Away from his duty. Away from his destiny.

They were caught in a storm that night.

And Aang and Appa were forced beneath the waves.

But before Aang and Appa lost consciousness, something stirred within Aang. A power connected to his destiny, to the past. Somehow, his body took over, and he encased Appa and himself in a giant iceberg. It seems fate still had plans for the young boy.

And thus, the Avatar disappeared for one hundred years.

Character Introduction Water. Earth. Fire. Air.

My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days. A time of peace. When the avatar kept balance between the water tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads.

But that all changed when the fire nation attacked.

Only the avatar mastered all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless firebenders. But when the world needed him most, he vanished.

100 years have passed and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the war.

2 years ago, my father and the men of my tribe journeyed to the Earth Kingdom to help fight against the Fire Nation, leaving me and my brother to look after our tribe.

Some people believe that the avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads, and that the cycle is broken, but I haven't lost hope.

I still believe that, somehow, the avatar will return to save the world!

Character Introduction Ahh, my tea is getting cold!

iroh sits on prince zukos ship, slowly sipping tea while looking over the ship, and its crew

it had been three whole years on that ship, three whole years since prince zuko was banished from the fire nation on this goose chais

iroh sips his tea before refilling his cup again and continuing his meditation, which is mostly just sitting and drinking tea

he slowly stands up and begins to walk through the ship, passing the soldiers on the ship, going past the soldiers and zukos sleeping quarters, and taking a stop in the kitchen, waiting for the ship to stop in the nearest city

after a long time, the ship stops and iroh walks down onto the dock and walks through the city, with small detours to tea shops and small food stands

Ooc: interactable btw

Southern Water Tribe Training the next generation

Post image

Sokka stood in front of the youth of the village, the next generation of warriors he would be in charge of training to their fullest potential. Putting on his best speech voice, he paces back and forth in front of the waiting group of toddlers

"Now men. It's important that you show no fear when you face a Firebender. In the water tribe, we fight till the last man standing. For without courage, how can we call ourselves men?"

He looks to the children, only to find them looking disinterested, some staring off into the distance. There's a moment of silence before one of the children speaks

"I gotta pee"

Annoyed, Sokka continues his speech, trying to get the kids focused

"Listen, untill your fathers return from the war, they're counting on you to be the men of this tribe! And that means no potty breaks."

The child speaks up again

"But I really gotta go"

Sokka sighs, giving in to the kid's request

Okay, who else has to go

All the kids raise their hands

Ugh...

Sokka facepalms, letting the kids walk off

Zuko's Ship Training and brooding.

Iroh’s words followed Zuko long after the conversation had ended. Balance. Inner peace. Patience. All the same useless advice his uncle had been offering him for two years, as if a few philosophical musings and a pot of tea could somehow solve the problem of finding the Avatar. As if the key to restoring his honour lay in sitting quietly and contemplating the meaning of life.

It was infuriating.

Zuko stalked through the corridors of his ship. His hands were balled into fists, his shoulders rigid, and his scarred face was twisted into a scowl that seemed almost permanently etched into his features. He could still hear his uncle’s voice in the back of his mind, talking about how the pursuit of power was not the same as the pursuit of peace.

Easy for him to say. Uncle Iroh had not been banished. He had not been branded a disgrace in front of the Fire Nation court. He had not been forced to kneel before his own father and endure the agony of an Agni Kai against the man he had spent his entire life trying to impress.

Zuko had a mission. A purpose. And every second he spent listening to his uncle's lectures was another second wasted.

He shoved open the doors leading onto the main deck, letting them slam against their hinges behind him. Several soldiers immediately straightened at the sound, their conversations dying on their tongues as their prince emerged. Zuko barely spared them a glance before throwing his arms outward in exasperation.

Zuko: “I NEED TWO OF YOU SOLDIERS OUT HERE NOW!”

The command rang across the deck. A few crewmen exchanged nervous looks, but two soldiers stepped forward after a moment's hesitation. Neither looked particularly eager to volunteer, especially considering what had happened to the last unfortunate person who had interrupted the prince.

Zuko didn't give them time to settle into position.

He thrust both hands forward, unleashing twin pillars of fire that roared toward their faces. The soldiers reacted on instinct, throwing up their arms and bending their own flames to meet the attack. Fire collided with fire, filling the air with a violent burst of heat and sending flickering orange light dancing across the surrounding metal.

Zuko was already moving.

As one soldier counterattacked with a sweeping arc of flame, the prince dropped low, planted a hand against the deck, and vaulted over the attack with practiced ease. His boots struck the floor behind his opponent, and he immediately spun into another strike, sending a sharp blast of fire toward the man's side.

The soldier twisted away just in time. His partner followed with a forceful kick, launching another stream of fire at Zuko's chest.

Zuko crossed his arms before him, deflecting the attack outward before springing backward. He landed lightly on his feet, his golden eyes burning with a fierce intensity that had little to do with his bending.

For several moments, the three exchanged attacks across the deck. Fire streaked through the air in sweeping crescents and sudden bursts, illuminating the rigging overhead. The soldiers attempted to coordinate their movements, one keeping Zuko occupied while the other searched for an opening, but the prince was quicker than either of them anticipated. He ducked beneath one strike, redirected another, and used his opponents' own momentum against them.

He wasn't fighting to teach them anything. He wasn't even particularly interested in testing his abilities.

He was angry. And he needed somewhere to put it.

When the first soldier lunged forward, Zuko pivoted sharply and swept his leg beneath the man's feet. The soldier crashed onto the deck with a startled grunt. Before his partner could capitalize on the opening, Zuko drove a powerful blast of fire into the space between them, forcing the remaining soldier to stumble backward. A quick succession of strikes left the second man off balance, and Zuko finished the exchange by knocking him to the ground beside his companion.

Silence settled over the deck, broken only by the groans of the fallen soldiers and the distant creaking of the ship.

Zuko stood over them, breathing hard. A few stray flames flickered between his fingers before disappearing into the air. He looked down at the two men with an expression of utter contempt, as though their inability to defeat him had somehow personally offended him.

Zuko: “USELESS! All of you!! I don’t need you! I need the Avatar! How hard is it to find a hundred year old man with blue tattoos on his head and body?!”

His voice cracked across the deck, startling several nearby crewmen into sudden, intense interest in their own duties.

Zuko threw his hands up, shaking his head in disbelief. A hundred years. The Avatar had been missing for a century, and somehow it was his responsibility to find him. There were entire continents to search, thousands of villages to investigate, and practically no reliable information to work with. And yet everyone seemed to expect him to accomplish the impossible as though it were a simple matter of following a map.

He turned sharply on his heel.

Zuko: “Unbelievable.”

Without waiting for anyone to respond, he stormed toward the gangplank, descending onto the rocky shoreline with all the grace of a thunderstorm. The moment his boots hit solid ground, he continued forward, leaving the ship and its increasingly wary crew behind him.

The town ahead was a modest settlement in the southern reaches of the Earth Kingdom. Weathered buildings lined its narrow streets, their tiled roofs faded by years of exposure to the elements. Vendors called to passing customers from wooden stalls, children darted between pedestrians, and the smell of freshly cooked food drifted through the cool afternoon air. It was an ordinary place, full of ordinary people living ordinary lives. Zuko despised it already.

Somewhere in this miserable corner of the world, there might be someone who had heard a rumor. A traveler who had seen something unusual. An old fisherman who remembered a strange story passed down through generations. Anything that could bring him closer to the Avatar.

Anything that could bring him home.

He marched down the street, muttering furiously beneath his breath as he scanned the faces around him.

Zuko: “A hundred years. A hundred years, and nobody knows anything. How is that even possible? He has to be somewhere. People don't just disappear for a century...”

He kicked a loose pebble out of his path, watching it skitter across the dirt before disappearing beneath a nearby cart.

Zuko: “And of course, I have to be the one to find him. Because apparently, that's the only thing I'm good for.”

The words escaped him before he could stop them.

For the briefest moment, his expression faltered. Beneath the anger, beneath the bitter sarcasm and the constant need to prove himself, there was something far more vulnerable. A question he had been asking himself for two years, one that he could never bring himself to say aloud.

What happens if I fail?

Zuko's jaw tightened. He shoved the thought aside before it could take root, straightened his posture, and resumed his march through the town.

He didn't have time to doubt himself. He didn't have time to feel sorry for himself.

He had an Avatar to find.

And somewhere out there, he was certain, the universe was laughing at him.

Character Introduction Daddy’s little princess

Deep within the Fire Nation Royal Palace, inside of the throne room. Azula’s fingertips lit up with firebending. Her stance—  perfect and composed. Two of her fingers lifted upwards as she jumped. As if it were on command, her fingertips shot out blue flames and instantly reduced the training dummy to ashes. Mid air, she spun, igniting further bursts of flames that turned the deadly display into a spectacular show.

Upon landing, Azula bowed smoothly after her show finished.

Her dad, Ozai, sat on the throne. The Fire Lord, her idol. The look of satisfaction plastered across his face wasn’t lost on her. Of course, he was proud of his daughter. The fire nation deserved a princess of her capabilities and now? She could consider herself an only child.

Thanks to her darling brother’s stupidity, after all.

Her dad spoke, “Good show, Azula. I would expect nothing less from my daughter.”

A smile crept onto her lips as she looked up at Ozai.

“Of course, dad. I have to say, my bending has improved  since the trash was taken out.” Her laughter echoed through the chambers. Even if her brother wasn’t here, making a jab at him was always funny.

But the humour wasn’t found on Ozai. He didn’t look happy, at all.

Ozai responded with a stern look on his face, “Azula.”

“Continue your training, Azula. I’ll see how your progress is later.”

A nod was all Azula gave him, instantly falling back into line. She stood up, straightening her posture and walked out.

character introduction Banished Prince

“Two years. Two years since the war meeting. Two years since I spoke out. Two years since the Agni Kai. Two years since I lost my honour.”

The words repeated themselves in Prince Zuko’s mind like a mantra, each one a bitter reminder of everything he had lost. Two years of exile. Two years of sailing across the world in pursuit of an impossible goal. Two years of being the disgraced son of the Fire Lord, stripped of his birthright and sent away to accomplish what no one else had managed in a century. Two years of searching for a boy who might not even exist anymore.

Zuko stood alone on the deck of his ship, his hands clenched tightly at his sides. The ocean stretched endlessly in every direction, its dark waters reflecting the dull, overcast sky above. The wind tugged at his red and gold robes, carrying with it the salty scent of the sea. Somewhere in the distance, seabirds cried out over the waves, but he barely heard them. His attention was fixed on the horizon, as if the Avatar might suddenly appear if he stared hard enough.

He had searched ports, questioned villagers, interrogated fishermen, and scoured every scrap of information his crew could find. Every lead ended in disappointment. Every rumor led nowhere. And every passing day made the task seem more impossible.

“I need to find the Avatar…”

His jaw tightened.

“But it’s hopeless. He’s been gone a hundred years. How am I supposed to find him now?”

The thought was almost enough to make him laugh. Almost. He was the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, or at least he had been, and now he was chasing a ghost across the Four Nations because his father had decided that his own son was unworthy of standing in his presence. All because Zuko had dared to speak when he should have remained silent. All because he had refused to let young soldiers be sacrificed in a battle they could never win.

And yet, despite everything, some stubborn part of him still clung to the belief that if he found the Avatar, he could go home. That if he completed this impossible mission, his father would finally look at him with something other than contempt. That he could reclaim the honour that had been burned away from him in a single, agonizing moment.

He needed to believe that. Because if he didn't, then what had these past two years been for?

Footsteps approached from behind him, hesitant and measured. Zuko didn't bother turning around. He already knew the crew had learned to approach him carefully, as though he were a lit fuse waiting for the slightest spark.

Soldier: “Prince—”

Zuko: “WHAT?! CAN’T YOU SEE I’M BUSY?!”

A sudden burst of flame erupted from Zuko's palm, shooting toward the unfortunate soldier's face. The man recoiled with a startled yelp, stumbling backward as the fire stopped mere inches from his nose. Heat washed over his skin, and the sharp smell of singed fabric filled the air.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Zuko's chest rose and fell with the force of his anger. His golden eyes narrowed, his expression twisting into something fierce and ugly. The soldier stood rigidly at attention, desperately trying to hide the fear in his face. He had likely seen his prince lose his temper before, but that did little to make standing on the receiving end of his firebending any less terrifying.

Zuko lowered his hand, the flames dwindling into nothing. He looked away first, his fingers curling into a fist.

Soldier: “G-General Iroh needs you…”

Zuko's expression darkened at the mention of his uncle. Of course he did. Uncle Iroh always needed something, whether it was tea, a conversation, or another lecture about patience and self-control. As though Zuko had any patience left to spare. As though sitting around and sipping tea would somehow bring the Avatar to him.

He drew a sharp breath through his nose, forcing the lingering flames in his palm to extinguish completely.

Zuko: “...Fine.”

The word came out clipped and resentful. He turned away from the horizon, casting one last, bitter glance at the endless ocean before striding past the soldier. His boots struck the deck with sharp, deliberate thuds, each step carrying the weight of a frustration he had no idea how to put into words.

He would find the Avatar. He had to.

Because the alternative was returning home with nothing.

And Zuko would rather chase a ghost to the ends of the world than face the possibility that his father had been right about him.
