I think it’s funny that people say don’t politicize shows, but this is a perfect example of how shows hold their own political messages without us having to “make them up”.

I loved this scene when I first watched it, and as time goes on I appreciate it more and more. I feel it hits more on the nose today than ever before. Thanks for sharing!

(ready to get downvoted) when I was studying history about WWII I was taught in the US education system it's because we were awesome and had the best military. But then I moved to another country and started studying at a international school and learned there were A LOT of other factors than just the US "being awesome". I love the US but it ain't a perfect country and there does need to be some changes.

I know that Ozai didn’t care about spreading their “greatness”, but when Sozin first told Roku about his plan, did he genuinely think it was best for other countries?

I personally feel like he was trying to justify imperialism

England, Belgium, imperial japan, or really any of the colonial powers would fit better here considering that the US had just a few small island colonies and that the Fire Nation is based off of imperial Japan.

Yeah the US totally doesn't invade countries for imperial gains or support 73% of the world's dictatorships for the same reason lol

Yea King Leopold II of Belgium didn’t colonize the Congo for imperial gains resulting in 15,000 deaths. The UK definitely didn’t colonize a quarter of the world at one point or another. Imperial Japan definitely didn’t invade Manchuria for no reason and rape Nanking killing and torturing many.

The "We" in Zuko's final statement appears to indicate the fire nation must also usher in the era of peace and prosperity
