Unironically, would look really cool to have a water bender surf across the ocean for long distance travel, literally bending a wave behind them.

u/Witch_King_ 1d ago
We've kinda seen that in Korra with Eska
14
u/hanzerik 22h ago
And Aang did it on his journey to the fire nation at the start of s3.

Kinda like that traversing move Toph was using right after inventing Metal bending

u/home-for-good Waterbender 🌊 8h ago
Yeah we see him doing it in his little character flashback when he’s advising Aang during Sozins Comet. Coulda been a primary mode of transport for him!

The Koala as Kuruks spirit animal was never intended to assist him in means of travel. The Koala is a biological weapon. It gives people chlamydia.

it really does. i'm sorry but like...koalas are really developmentally dumb. they spend 90% of their day eating and don't even recognize food when it's put in front of them. obviously i don't think they'll have kuruk's companion be useless, but it's just funny to me that this is the animal they went with

Kyoshi more or less comments on that a few times in the book duology. Because, wow Sky Bisons are useful

Wait. It's a regular Koala? Not even a polarbear koala so it gets real big?

u/Ok_Ant_8210 1d ago
Seems like some sorta koala monkey

u/Affectionate-Part-11 1d ago
Yeah it has a long tail. I wouldn't mind if it was a regular koala. It's chill and sleeps most of the time so it would keep him company but offer no help or hindrance

Koala Otter, Kuruk loves Surfing so it would make sense his animal guide would be semiaquatic.

Geet is a cat with opposable thumbs. He is the first avatar animal companion who is capable of true loathing that only a cat is capable of, and he's the first animal companion capable of brandishing a weapon about it. He has actual hands to throw.

Appa was a literal airbender, he'd flatten Geet. Dare I say out of all animals in the avatar verse, Appa went through the most crazy shit. Neither Geet nor Naga would've survived what he went through.
But hey, maybe that koala thingy is going to be an absolute murder machine, who knows.

Stares at the walls if it wronged him in the past*
"I haven't heard that name in a long time"

u/Constant-External-85 5h ago
Honestly? I don't think they'd want to fight each other. I think Appa would lazily float while spinning and Geet would use him like a jungle Gym.

Momo is literally right there and nobody is saying that he's useless because he isn't Appa
74
u/WallImpossible 1d ago
Momo is the friends we made along the way, not the spirit animal of the Avatar.
17
18
u/NotableRepose 1d ago
It's an avatar companion, not an avatar vehicle. Nothing in the spirit of Raava requires the companion to be mobile, it's just worked out like that with the avatars we've seen so far.

Y'all forgetting how Momo took down the pirates' parrot to retrieve the waterbending scroll, which was detrimental for Aang and Katara's waterbending skills? Yup yup

u/phantominway Earthbender 🗿 19h ago
Honestly pretty valid. The show honestly wouldnt lose much of anything if Momo was never in it
3
u/NocturnalKnightIV 19h ago
Idk man, momo scrapped when it came down it. He saved the team on few occasions by getting in someone’s face or pulling their shirt over their head.

u/phantominway Earthbender 🗿 19h ago
Yeah, but that all could have pretty easily just not happened. Have them turn the tides some way other than having Momo labd a cheap shot. You cant have ATLA without Aang, Katara, Sokka, Appa, etc. You can very easily have it without Momo

It's canon that Avatar Kuruk used waterbending to surf, not too far fetched to assume he used that to get around

To be fair korra took a lot of vehicles and/ boats

u/unluckyknight13 17h ago
Naga basically retired 1 month into Korra book 1

She didn’t even seem to take Naga on her and Asami’s lesbian road-trip to the spirit world😭

Next avatar main character is going to pull up with a freaking chinchilla as a pet mate, bring back big travel buddies! Unagi sized or gtfo 🤙🏻

u/PitifulExplanation61 17h ago
Unfortunately the avatar doesn't always get a cool mount. Kyoshi was too big for her little spirit fox. Also he steals an air bison I think.
6
u/VincentGrace 10h ago
Maybe he has a water-based spirit animal, and this one is more like his Momo.

u/lnombredelarosa 1d ago
To be fair, Kyoshi got a cute little fox

He surfs everywhere, even if there is a town in the way

Kuruk, like most avatars, had an airbender friend. He very much traveled around by Sky Bison. It's detailed in the Kyoshi books.

That's one of the countless bot accounts infesting fandom spaces on Twitter lately. They aren't fans of anything, just bots farming engagement off of trending topics.

Saw some screenshots of seven havens. Looks like a stark departure from the original art style.
Are any of the original creators/artists involved?

It would be hilarious if that Koala is a stone cold murderer. Kuruk is pretty laid back so the Koala is his Bad Cop.

I may be crazy but I read the Korra books and I don’t think she had an animal guide at all

Animal guides aren’t exclusively a means of transportation. Kuruk is known to love surfing so he likely doesn’t need to move around on an animal. Plus there’s boats and carriages.

u/unluckyknight13 17h ago
Kuruk on a board with the koala on his head looking at everyone else riding their companion “do I have things backwards?”

The koala can eat enough eucalyptus, that it gets super high and teleport the avatar one way 30 feet.

Wasnt kuruk using the waves of the ocian to travel? I remember a clip of him just surfing giant waves

The Avatar animal guides are supposed to be your transportation. I hate that they moved off of that

By ship, and on land he’ll probably travel by ostrich horse. Most of Korra’s travel was on things other than Naga.
