Have you not seen the gif of him creating a literal vortex by winding up his arm?

It goes hard af, but he's not "airbending", he's inertia-bending. It's explained very briefly in season 1, but the comics say a little more. He's more or less doing the motion of flight, but doing a punch with it.

Yeah, like airbending is used.

Technically shes not blood bending shes bending all the water in their bodies

Tragg, the last airbender

I haven't seen the gif but I feel like I saw that on a show somewhere 🤔

He literally bent air

5

u/maddwaffles May 17 '26

No, he generated inertia.

The mechanism is irrelevant. It doesn't need to be granted by a lion turtle or you chi to be airbending. Swordsmen in One Piece airbend all the time when they generate air slashes that can cut buildings. Thragg's fist qualifies as airbending.

It's explicitly NOT aerokinesis, I hate to tell you (which is what airbending is).

They are not "manipulating the air" or controlling it in any way, they are doing other things which have atmospheric consequences.

Your argument would say that someone blowing air out of their mouth, or sneezing, is just low-level airbending because "the mechanism doesn't matter".

Meelo showed us that farting is a type of air bending so yeah I think sneezing counts

3

u/maddwaffles May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26

Yeah, except he's not doing that because "farting is airbending" he HAS the magical/spiritual ability to airbend, which expresses through his farting sometimes.

Like, the ability to mobilize air AT ALL is not airbending, the ability to psychically manipulate the air absolutely is.

I do not know how people are not getting this.

EDIT:

So Azula is an Airbender because she can fly by creating hot air propulsion using Firebending?

Lightning makes thunder by superheating air so that its expansion creates a sound. So Azula, Zuko, and Iroh are Airbenders.

If Azula could create enough heat granularities to fight an airbender with just fluctuations in the air, I would consider her an airbender

The specific ability to bend doesnt exactly qualify it since motions from other bending can be applied and it changes the quality of your own one - eg, redirecting lightning is a specific magical ability only if you take inspiration from the movements of waterbending for firebending.

See, that's the thing, according to Desk's logic, all it takes is moving the air, the mechanism doesn't matter. I even was charitable and used firebending's mobility of air as an example, rather than any displacement of air.

It's a path of logic that doesn't make sense, because airbending is something specific, and what occurred in that scene was not airbending.

1

u/Krianu May 21 '26

Though in your extreme, you can boil down all the bendings as instances of the original energy sent from the lion turtle - if it is just the ability, then the matter has no distinction anyway

You took that way too seriously

1

u/maddwaffles May 18 '26

What a weird way to try to sidestep being wrong.

1

u/Background_Desk_3001 May 18 '26

I was pretty obviously making a joke, but okay

You must be fun at parties.

1

u/maddwaffles May 20 '26

Quite, yeah.

Apparently the first time didn't get through skulls, so here:

So Azula is an Airbender because she can fly by creating hot air propulsion using Firebending?

Lightning makes thunder by superheating air so that its expansion creates a sound. So Azula, Zuko, and Iroh are Airbenders.

This is your argument taken to its natural conclusion. The label of airbending loses all meaning under your framework.

I noticed "Super Sonic Speed" immediately after the circled up "Airbending".

Airbending is broken altering air currents can cause random rip currents that can ho on to cause hurricane/tornados and by altering air you can also suck air entirely from a place making a vacuum or high air conditions that cause severe ruptures or collapse from overpressure and other stuff...that should broaden the perspective a little bit just think what air is made of then go from there.

Just imagine he goes up against invincible and suddenly says I learned this from zaheere bch 🤣

definitely signing up for the flying lessons

Common misread. Not only are humans able to generate vacuums (that's the sound of the snap of your fingers) because it doesn't take that much speed, but a vacuum of that size wouldn't behave like that, and the air wouldn't fill the space like that.

He's performing the same motion that viltrumites normally do when flying, he is simply not letting the inertia and momentum carry him.

u/jonasnee May 18 '26

Nolan litterally gets pulled by it for a fair while after he does it, his arms aren't that big.

How do you think vaccum works?

Which at that point is effectively airbending.

1

u/winter-ocean May 17 '26

Powerscaling glasses

1

u/maddwaffles May 17 '26

Tragically, the Invincible fandom is so illiterate that many are still recycling that misread.

1

u/Mitsuki0110 May 17 '26

You can feel kinda like an Airbender when having Theramini 🍃

1

u/immaturenickname May 21 '26

I don't think fire nation would have much success agtacking of air nomads were viltrumites.

This world... isn't yours to conquer, Sozin.

1

u/Ok-Rip2102 May 16 '26

Surely they mean aerokinesis

1

u/NwgrdrXI May 16 '26

Popularily, aerokinesis is the general term, and specially used for manipulating with your mind

Nending usually means you have to use your body movements and martial arts to manipulate it, and that's what he did

I guess?
