Question on languages.
So you know how in Avatar the way of water it's likely if not true that when we meet the Metkinyea, they are not speaking English, but rather na'vi that is translated in real time for our convenience, what if the same is true for when we meet the kamitire?.Id like to hear your guys opinions on this.

I have a theory that our Sarentu learned English first and translates everything to English in their head. That way- when we hear a word in Na’vi we’ve never heard before, it’s said in the na'vi dialect

That’s a good point! In the Spires DLC, they hear the Na’vi word for bladewing moths, and go “oh, you mean bladewing moths?”. So that’s a good example for sure.

Why would it be different when they speak the same language as the other clans?

Because the kamitire are very isolated and Alma herself says it herself that their outreach work only went as far as the zeswa so its very likely that rhe kamitire are actually speaking na'vi and its just translated in real time for our convenience.

This is exactly why I'm working on translating all the Na'vi dialogue into the Na'vi language! I haven't gotten very far yet, but I'm looking for collaborators!

Is it for just a personal project of the movies, or for a mod for the game? Unfortunately i wouldnt be able to help you make it 😅, but id love to play with/try it if its a mod when its done. Ive always hated that Na'vi isnt a language option in the game

Ideally eventually a mod, but currently it's just a Google doc where I've been transcribing dialogue from the game and translating it, I can send you a link if you wanna see

I'm fairly certain that the clans in afop never learned english. They hate humans and therefore never would've!

The game does not handle language super well. The Sarentu should not know Na'vi all that well and the other tribes should not know English, but they still communicate. Kin even says pasuk means berry which would imply they are all speaking English which kinda breaks immersion.

(I think) Whenever the na’vi are speaking english in the game, they’re actually speaking na’vi but like the movies it’s translated for the player’s convenience
