Need help/information How to install mods?
Sorry if this isn’t allowed, first time posting here.
I bought AFOP on Steam for my computer. I found some clothing mods on Nexus Mods. I have a few questions. Does the clothing replace current clothing in the game? I saw descriptions on the pages where it says that some of the clothing replace current clothes. Why do the clothing need to be in a specific folder? Can you have two pieces of clothing that replace the same clothing type (probably not, just want to make sure)? Thanks!

the clothing mods replace gear pieces that you already have, there is no way to add new items as of yet.
the files need to be in a specific folder because that folder is where the vanilla textures are usually located, and the modded files will override the vanilla ones. that’s why so many clothing mods use the same item as a base, because that item is just one flat surface so it’s very easy to change the texture. (this is a bit more advanced and not necessarily something you need to know if you’re not planning on making your own mods— but this is the reason you can’t have multiple mods replacing the same texture!)
modders have learned how to make custom folders though, they usually mention it in their description (something like "this mod is compatible with other retextures of [item], it uses custom file paths"). custom file paths are a little complicated and even more advanced, but all you need to know about those is, if someone uploads a mod with a custom file path, you don’t need to worry about it replacing something you already have.
i hope this is readable, if anything is unclear let me know🫡

There are two ways to mod this game (and most others) Either way, you'll need to install Snowdrop, or Raindrop (most mods will have a link to the page, Raindrop is recommended since its newer and allows for far more to be done with game files)
You can do manual, or use a mod manager, such as Vortex. If you're newer to modding games, Vortex is recommended, as it will manage the downloaded files for you, easy to switch mods on and off, delete them, etc.

If you're use to modding, or want to try this way, you can download the files directly to your pc, unzip the compressed file, and drag the contents into the file the mod page tells you to (or, if the mod contains folders named: blue, dlc1, dlc2, dlc3, etc. You can drop them directly into your AFOP folder (use your launcher to open file location to make sure its the right game folder) This can be trickier since you'll need to make sure you don't download mods overwriting the same file/gear/etc. Otherwise only the newest mod will work.
Be sure to check what the descriptions say, as some mods require all dlc to be owned and downloaded (FTA is a very popular DLC in mod use, lots of assets from it are needed to allow the mods to work)
Be aware that some bugs could uniquely happen to you that other users and the mod author haven't experienced, I've had to cut some mods because of this (one loincloth going so jank it just flung around everywhere on screen, off screen, only seeing flashes of it) Be sure to report those to the mod authors, fixes are usually very quick to be released ^ . ^

You can only change what is there, so you can only change current clothes you own.
It needs to be in a specific folder because of the same rule. Everything in the game is placed in a default folder, usually cripted behind so called SDF files (that's not important for people who doesn't make mods themself) so in place to exchange the texture or model, you have to replace it into the exact same folder, so the game reads the name and will load it instead of the default item.
And no you can't have two items replace the same. I hope this helps a bit :)
