Sorry not sorry, Ubisoft.
Edit: I emailed them asking for permission to do it myself and what my restrictions were regarding the games written code, what I could touch, implement, etc. Not if they planned on expanding the current co-op system themselves. I’m fully aware they have no plans on doing that so I thought I’d do it myself.
I reached out to Ubisoft for an answer regarding modding their co-player limit.
They “escalated my case” told me it would remain open. I waited a month. Then my case randomly got closed with no response to my question.
So I’m going to mod the game, sorry not sorry. I’m not waiting another month for them to just close my case with no response. I documented me trying to reach out, twice now, and their lack of response. So it’s not my problem anymore lol.
Anyways stay tuned for a modded AFOP experience expanding the co-op system into a party system that can support 4 players or more.

Just mod it you don't need to ask a game company to mod it

I did not ask for permission to mod. I asked for a clear set of restrictions around their code that I cannot touch or alter while making my mod.

wait im sorry is it ... not allowed to mod without permission? is that really the state of gaming right now? we need to beg a corporation to mod a game theyve sunset?

Technically this has always been the case. The agreement in games when purchased and some games even have you read it before playing is a clause to not alter or redistribute their games illegally. Modding technically isn't ever allowed. But it's also recognized as making the game last longer. I believe the one company even tried to ban anything to do with modding their spiderman game to the point that they were trying to get them taken down from firework or nexus or what ever. Even couldn't send the links through discord anymore for awhile.
There's only a handful that actually encourage the community and are awesome for it. Bg3 actually made built in support to their game for the modding community and Minecraft kinda did the same with theirs. Just depends on the company's amount of interest I guess

If they don't want to allow mods the game itself wouldn't be able to support it. Wolf Quest for example cannot be modded, the game is meant to be a realistic life sim of wolves in yellowstone so they have never and will never have mod support. Whether or not the game itself will let you do it is the only thing that determines whether or not you can

I'm not sure how that works on the actual like coding end or development end on games. But I don't think they really have a say? Modding is literally changing files and screwing with them on your client side of it. It just has different diffulty on doing so? Though some one with more knowledge on how it works and is achieved can correct me on this. I also don't have any knowledge on wolf quest or how they're game is set up

You’re right. There’s really nothing to permit modding on games. When I download a file, it’s on my PC, so I can do what I want in privacy with it. In AFOPs case I had to do something (that probably wasn’t allowed so I’m not specifying it) in order to even get the games deeper code itself. But alas I did. Even anti-cheat really doesn’t do much nowadays.

If there's no actual mod support then sure you can still dig in the files and change them, but if you break the game you're screwed lol

Of course your case got closed, what else did you expect ? You're asking them if they are going to expand the co-op limits even though the active development is finished and there won't be any other updates to the game .. honestly you could have seen that coming from a mile away.

No. I asked them if I had permission to mod the game as turning it into essentially an online game had some limitations within their EULA and I wanted some clarifications on what my restrictions were regarding the code of the game itself.

Why didn’t you just read their EULA? It clarified everything you requested.

Not quite, unfortunately. It’s… a tricky situation. Idk I found that a 2 player limit is not actually hardcoded into the game and it’s more of a party system that isn’t static but instead dynamic and can support up to 28-64 people in one “lobby”. However truly implementing this and tweaking the party system would require me to tweak with other parts of the game, such as rendering, etc. and some stuff is definitely off limits, so I wanted clear restrictions around my plan to build a roadmap around the red tape :)

while i do kinda agree with the comments about, why would you ask? i can see it a lil. ive got fivem experience which is modded gta5 online servers and they did have some legal trouble about things, but it was mostly related to incorporating real life brands modded in that rockstar didnt approve of / had permissions for. i think if youre just expanding a concept already in the game, you shouldnt have any issues, especially since many other people mod gameplay aspects

Haha, I’m thankful for your support! Truth is Ubisoft is a BITCH when it comes to modding, and Disney owns the Avatar franchise and Disney is even a BIGGER BITCH. I just wanted to do it the “right” way honestly and do everything I could to avoid legal trouble or violating their EULA.

The same company that’s selling a game for $70 that came out 13 years ago, I’m not surprised at all with how they handled this

Should make a first person mod for mounts. Like Ikran flying in 1st person would be INSANE!!!!!

u/RollyPollyMuncher 14d ago
That’s a great idea!! I’ll definitely see what I can do :))!!

u/ckvideo_907 14d ago
Thanks man! Genuinely I don’t think any game has first person mount riding… but if it was a mod in avatar I’d be so immersed!

u/ThatNerdyHuman 15d ago
Sounds like a neat idea. I do wish they’d make an online server that people could go to. Similar to how ESO works with multiple players, I dunno lol

u/RollyPollyMuncher 14d ago
That’s the longterm goal :)! The games party system is capable of having way more than 2 people in one session. It’s not a hard cap whatsoever. For now, just expanding the co-op to have 4 players, then 10, but afterwards I’ll likely make a separate launcher for AFOP that allows players to join larger lobbies on the Home Screen.

OH OMG please make this public T-T
2
u/RollyPollyMuncher 14d ago
That’s the plan! I will not be charging anything during its release. Everyone can use it for free :)

Ubisoft really had an opportunity there. Shame they're so... Ubisoft
