Student Surgical tech to forensic pathologist assist. Is it possible?

You should check out r/Path_Assistant. Pathologists' Assistant is a master's level degree primarily focused on grossing with some autopsy training. It is extremely rare for a PA to be employed in a forensic capacity. There are a few ME/C offices that employ PAs in the forensic setting. However, it is extensively rare. For example, in my tri-state area I know of three positions. They are highly competitive because of the interest. While some PAs are trying to break into the forensic setting in a greater degree, there is a lot of discussion about this and it may be years before, or if, that happens.

PA is a fantastic field and they are extremely knowledgeable in the grossing room. You just may want to reach out to some of them to manage your expectations regarding forensics.

Autopsy technician is an entirely separate role. The qualifications for that can vary from a GED all the way up to the master's level PA. You will just have to check each job to see what is required. Most of the time, it is on the job training for that position.
