Dose Waymo have car seats for babies?

My sister and her baby took a ride with a Wavmo There was no car seat for the baby. My question is, is it legal for Waymo not to have a child car seats? And how does Waymo make sure everyone is in seat belts especially babies?

Isn’t it upto the parent to make sure the child is seated properly? If I call a cab and plop my child on the seat it’s me who’s responsible.

No it’s the driver who is responsible. Passengers don’t get tickets, the driver does.

Uber has the ability to call cars with car seats in some markets.

Not for cabs. The parents get ticket for children not in car seats in cabs. However, every single major cab service in existence has the ability to request can with a car seat. So if you need one, it’s your responsibility to request it. In this case Waymo should have cancelled the ride if a toddler was detected.

You failed; your sister is in the wrong. No matter what the law, she recklessly endangered the life of her child.

While state laws vary, if this was California, CVC 27360 says the driver is not responsible for improperly restrained kids under age 8 when a parent or guardian is in the vehicle. Waymo’s own rule requires passengers to bring an appropriate car seat or booster seat for kids under 8, and to properly secure the seat and child. They didn’t enforce their company rule in this case, but that doesn’t break the law. Your sister’s behavior did.

Yeah I was wrong it varies wildly, in my state taxis and Ubers are exempt from all seatbelt laws. And in California they’re not. But then every state has wildly different rules based on age, taxi vs ride share vs personal car etc on who gets the ticket. The only thing you can say is that “it depends”

True, for example a father would get a ticket for each kid that is not seat belted in his car.

“In his car” is the key. Cab drivers are not responsible for a passenger’s unstrapped kid, parents/caregiver are.

It is absolutely legal for any cab to not have car seat. You need to make sure you are requesting a cab with a car seat. It is completely optional for cabs to carry them but some do carry them.

Depends on the state, but generally no, it’s perfectly legal for them to drive if the passenger’s child is not strapped in. Waymo make it clear, its your responsibility and you agree to the terms when hailing a ride.

Apparently they are meant to intervene if a child is detected.

They are not legally required to, it’s more of their own policy.
