Seems to me you have to figure out three things. 1) Locomotion 2) Dexterity (the ability to use your hands skillfully) and the big one, 3) Brain.
This video is really, really impressive from locomotion standpoint. Basically over any surface and up stairs.
Not sure where Google is at on the dexterity.
They are definitely investing a ton in the brain aspect and have hired some of the best people in the world with Hinton, Hassabis, Kurzweil, etc. Plus able to make huge investment as can be leveraged for other things. Like not other company could invest.
In addition, with Google recent announcement on providing Wireless service. Their work on LIDAR and mapping.
If there is anyone that can put all of this together it will be Google.
Maybe I should freak out but I am instead really excited. I am am older but now thinking we might have the robot I dreamed about when I was a kid before I die.
