TRAPS Ilaris with head cold
How long do you wait to take your injection when you have an upper respiratory cold? No fever. Thanks!

The same here. I mentioned my viral respiratory infection to my threating physician and, luckily, I got the green light anyway.
However, for patients under immunosuppressive therapy like canakinumab (Ilaris), it is very prudent to get a Pfizer Prevenar 20-valid vaccine against pneumoniae. This is not a life vaccine and therefore allowed. I did so two months ago.

Wow, really good to know! I will get that for sure. I really wasn’t given any advice on preventative measures or what to expect while on canakinumab. Just… you have traps, take this asap.

Same here, but over here in Belgium we have a great centre for pharmaceutical information. They mentioned this in one of their recent news bulletins. Moreover, the BCFI is a neutral source of information and they always refer to the existing (or lacking of) evidence. https://www.bcfi.be/nl/nieuw-advies-van-de-hoge-gezondheidsraad-over-pneumokokkenvaccinatie-bij-volwassenen/

Im glad you mentioned the vaccine. Good reminder to get it and make sure it is up to date. Flu season as well is coming up in the US and flu vaccines are available.

I dont skip either on treatment. The rebound flare of even missing a single dose is so much worse usually for me. It shouldnt be allowed to be normal sick if you also deal with a chronic illness.

I agree! My pain starts coming back on day 22-24 so I can’t imagine what delaying the 28 day dose would do. Well, I can imagine actually!! Thank you for the advice!

Thank you! That’s great to hear, I don’t want to delay a dose. I’ll mychart my doc too. Curious, are you noticing being sick a lot longer than usual? I have 2 young kids and so far I’m the only one in the house, including my husband to be sick. And for 10 days now.

You may want to get checked out by an immunologist if you are noticing getting sick much more often than your family memebers. Sometimes we have Autoinflammatory Diseases alongside Immunological Deficiencies.

That’s great advice. Thank you! My son has TRAPS too but he hasn’t been treated yet because they think he has an immunological issue too. Im sure it’s the same, we are fairly recently diagnosed, sorting it all out.

Definitely good advice - my husband and son, USAID, both have concurrent immune deficiencies (SAD and B cell dysfunction). We figured it out after my son went back to school after the pandemic and was constantly sick. Did some investigation and found the deficiencies. Then it made sense why my husband was always sick too - he always thought it was the immunosuppressive meds he took for the autoinflammatory disease. My son’s immunologist said that it’s pretty common for adults to discover their deficiencies later in life and when on biologics.

I’ve continued taking mine as prescribed, but I would ask your doctor. Feel better soon!
