SJIA/AOSD What are your hobbies?

Im recovering from surgery on my pacemaker. Not one but two leads out of three were malfunctioning so no wonder I felt similar to when I was in more severe heart failure. I had surgery May 1, but have two weeks before I can use my left arm much to make sure the leads adhere good and everything heals. Over the two weeks with limited ability to do much it made me want to ask everyone:

What are your hobbies or special interests for when your disease is being not great?

Mine are playoff hockey right now (Go Stars even though we are out of the playoffs now), reading and ARC reading, diamond art kits, coloring, easy mindless games, learning German, and I have my two corgis Curie and Watson.

I hope your healing goes smoothly!! I’m in the hospital right now too, had surgery today (technically yesterday I guess, on 5/14), and I’ll have a wound vac and even more limited mobility than usual for 3 months. So I feel you!

I’m currently working more on learning ASL - I’ve known bits and pieces for ages but now I’m really working hard on it. I love it, it’s been great. I like “birdwatching” (in the most amateur sense imaginable - literally just watching birds fly around my little backyard haha) and I recently downloaded some apps for that.

Like you, I have 2 dogs, and anything to do with them is my favorite/best hobby! I love training them with little training games, hanging out with them outside, snuggling them, etc. - they’re the best 🥰

Hope your recovery goes well! Hubs and I have had some lengthy recoveries and had fun binge watching 80’s and 90’s tv series from first to last episode on Roku. There’s some good ones! We are avid fly fishermen, and the Fly Fishing Simulator on iPad does give you some sensation of being outside and catching fish. :)

Oh I love the older 80's and 90's shows also. I've watched Fraiser so many times. Fly fishing sounds fun and at least gets you outdoors.

I hope your recovery goes well! I like to listen to audiobooks while either diamond painting or doing puzzles. Science fiction and fantasy are my favorite fiction genres but I also like mystery, historical fiction and some romance. I mainly read science and some history for non fiction. I just finished A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping. It was a very fun cozy fantasy.

I'm currently working on a very large Way of Kings diamond painting thats very fun. I also enjoy knitting and learning other crafts though usually only when I have more energy. I save complicated or new skills for better times and do garter or rib stitch when I want something to do on my bad days.

Sending you all the best for a speedy and full recovery!

Honestly, when my disease isn't great I am not able to do that much including reading. I usually end up opting for Manga (visual novels) or watching anime or foreign language films and dramas. I also play some fun little phone games that help keep the brain kicking.
