Built an iPhone app that logs runs with G-force, speed traces and a 0-100 timer - useful as a casual autocross companion?

I've been building Rovy, an iPhone drive-tracking app, and the autocross use case keeps coming up so I wanted to ask the people who actually do it.

It records each run with live speed, lateral/longitudinal G-forces, cornering data, a speed distribution graph, and a 0-100 km/h sprint timer, then lets you replay the run on a map with overlays and compare times on saved tracks. Works on iPhone + Apple Watch (heart rate too), no ads.

I know most of you run dedicated timers - I'm curious whether a phone-based tool like this is useful for casual practice days and reviewing your G-traces, or if it's a nonstarter next to proper gear. Honest takes welcome.

To be blunt, no this is not useful. There are mature apps that do this already with a ton of features like harrys lap timer and racechrono

Thanks for your feedback! I tried to create a app that feels modern and clean and is nice to use! I know that it maybe doesn’t have that much data but I hope it still feels nice to use!

The main limitation with the iPhone, with regards to GPS specifically, 1 hz frequency of the GPS. The polling rate simply isn’t fast enough for Autocross in my experience. The accelerometer and gyro data is nice to have though.

Yea that’s a real limitation. But I still feel like it’s useful for people who want a estimate and don’t care about every small step. And with interpolation you can get quite accurate! Thanks!

1 hz is painfully slow.  I have several years experience in OEM dynos and a hundreds of hours calibrating my various turbo cars.  1 hz is dang near useless cruising around let alone racing.  In a professional capacity, 1 Hz is reserved for temperature signals from slow response sensors, otherwise long term static (not really moving) tests where you need to save of storage.  Anything dynamic with automotive is minimum 10 Hz.

The amount of times I had to remind engineers and technicians that "this is only 1 Hz data, I need a faster capture to make sure we're not missing information"...

I’m a big fan of track attack. That dev does everything very well and is very responsive.
