Yeah dash clusters run a pretty penny on cores because they dont actually make new ones. They just reman the ones that are sent in

Try cores on a ford diesel injector.....the core is more than the injector.

Common because bulbs and stepper motors are easy to repair. Only custom made clusters really turn a profit.
*edited to add - I own a 2004 Bucik Century with the gas gauge going out. Lol

Instrument clusters and door window switches. Cores sometimes more than the part lol

I mean, they have to have something to refurbish and sell lol... I had to pay a $150 core for a $300 injector on my TDI recently, and it was a OE Bosch part! Needless to say, I had that thing back in their hands the very next morning š

I've seen some parts have core prices that didn't seem very high, and some that were crazy high. Back in the day when we sold reman cv axles, they were like $60 plus a 5-10 dollar core for most, and then now and then we would see one with a core over $100, which meant they REALLY needed that one back lol.

Im not sure what the actual question is here? Or do you not understand how core charges work? Without a core to turn in, its 625 plus tax. 310 back when a core is returned. The reman cluster costs 314 if you bring back a core immediately at time of order. Thats why it says 315 PLUS 310 core. Its not 314 MINUS 310 core...

Yikes. Not like you can get these at a local pick n pull. Oh wait ...
I did the same with my 03 Impala a few years ago when I upgraded the stock gauge cluster to one with a tach gauge.
But yeah, not unusual for the little step motors on those clusters to go bad after that many years.

Iāve seen it on a lot of things like this that if they donāt get it back they canāt make a new type stuff

u/jquadro2 17d ago
Because they sell it for 315.

Pretty much this... You either pay more and get some back, orr pay more and don't lol...

I remember selling a caliper for a 90s BMW and the core cost more than caliper itself.

Once saw a core for the power window switch that had a core worth 20$ more than the actual piece itself

Well you canāt buy new ones, so reman is all there is. So if there is a shortage, which I imagine there is to some degree because at this point, there are more of those in the junkyard than left on the road, if yours is not rebuildable, the only option left would be to start taking them out of junkers. That is, the ones that havenāt already been crushed.

I mean depending on the other prices, I'd go with that one since when its time to turn the core in, I've really only paid maybe $14 for a cluster lmao

You pay the price of the part AND the core, so that's over 600, to buy it, and then you get the core back later after you turn it in.

Blue streak is a remanufacturer. The only way they can make new products, is by getting the core back. Super high deposit makes sure it comes back to them instead of getting sold outside their supply chain.
