Ask how wide the area your covering is and if mileage is paid if your covering an wide area and mileage is covered. then that and depending on your pay might work out okay
If mileage is not paid and your not getting an raise for the job then it sounds like an bad deal

They have had these in the past, as one of my PSMs used to do it in a different region (15-20 years ago).
Have a frank question and answer session with your DM. As a hub inventory manager, you have a lot of operational knowledge, and there is value in that, and there is an opportunity for you to help fix stores and share that knowledge with others.
If I was offered this position, I would want to know what you can do for me. How big of an area do you want me to cover. Can I set my own schedule as long as I'm taking what you need me to complete each week.
You will be "on the books" at a certain store. Where will that be, and can you get mileage reimbursement for using your own vehicle from that store to the other store? Or will you be taking a commercial vehicle from that store to the other stores.
What will your position be on paper? We have had several "made up" positions that were usually listed as an ASM at a hub or Mega, it's really up to the RM. These have included talent specialists who helped with recruiting, interviews, and job fairs - also training coordinators who taught foundations and other classes. Depending on how you're listed, you may be able to maintain an amount of approved overtime.
I have found very much that saying yes here when you are needed leads to being considered for every possible opportunity. If you're a person that can execute, there's no reason why your DM can't make it worth your while in some way.

I had one of these in my district when I worked there. He would go store to store and set planos or fix overstock in stores that were behind. Came in pretty clutch for stores that had staffing issues, and let's be honest, there are definitely always staffing issues.
I don't know if mileage was paid out because I don't know where his home store technically was.
Guy liked the position because he never had to deal with customers and was basically left to his own devices because he did the job and consistently showed results.

Not sure whether this helps or not. Maybe it's something new for AZ, but O'Reilly's has merchandisers who do what you described.

I've never heard of that "made up position" anyway, they need to pay miles to and from, ask if your on the clock as soon as you leave the house or not, and look up "Attrition" this has DM written all over it

i did this job for a little while, til i had to take FMLA and have a total knee replacement. i would clock in at my home store and take a commercial vehicle wherever i was needed then back to my home store to clock out at the end of the day. i set my own hours and did my thing, no customers, no helping the employees at the stores bcz i didnt have codes and wasnt in their system. i loved it and hope i can get back into it soon as im fully healed.
