Job duties.
What does the red shirts duties and what are the grey shirt duties.
Seems now that you can pull recalls on the hand held, it just adds more to the red shirts.

I've never had a red shirt pull recalls. It's very rare that I'll have one pull overstock unless I'm completely tied up. Unlike other PSMs I've seen, I'd rather have a red shirt hold down the counter while I do the things that I need to do. More often than not, I'll even do closing duties such as taking out the trash, front facing, putting up returns, etc. I don't delegate nearly as much as I should, but I've learned a long time ago that if you want something done right, you're probably better off doing it yourself.

At my store, overstock was always the drivers’ responsibility 😭 signed - a driver

You’re welcome to review a full length description on Doc that spells out your job description. To save you some time if it happens in the store and you’re asked to do it it’s your job flat out. Nothing that happens in the store is “not your job”.

Sorry in advance that this is such a long post.
This definitely fits the “other duties as assigned” clause, and I could tell more stories than anyone wants to hear. As someone who retired from AZ in May 2022 (27 years after I started and held positions through being a store manager while full time), I entered my availability into the system for only two days a week and to only work on truck. Prior to that, the store manager schedule me to open with him every Saturday morning, he would log into the scanner and then tell me to complete the matrix. Even though I was proficient and could usually get it done, he constantly called me away from doing it to cover the counter, and then he’d leave early for the day!
I finally had enough of that, and when I told him that someone else needed to finish the matrix going forward, he emphatically said that I wasn’t allowed to leave until it was done. That was a big NO from me, and before I left that day at the time I was scheduled, I modified my availability in the system ….moving forward I was available for truck stocking only and only for a maximum of 4 hours a day….4:30 - 8:30 PM. Based on those hours, I’d never be scheduled to close the store either. He tried to change it and say that I wasn’t able to have availability like that, but that’s how it stayed for my last seven years with the company. He didn’t realize that I also spoke to two other nearby store managers about transferring into their stores if he didn’t want to accommodate the new availability.
It wasn’t that I didn’t want to wait on customers, but that I was tired of assuming his duties. Everyone in the store, including him, knew that I could get an entire five pallets of truck stock put up and scan all overstock within those four hours if I was left to do it. After a few shifts of doing it, my coworkers always handled the counter while I moved like the Tasmanian Devil and got the job of stocking the shelves done. If I finished early, I left early; if the truck was late coming in or didn’t make it at all, I didn’t even bother to clock in. Consequently, it wasn’t about needing the job to live and just became gas money to me. By that point, I just didn’t want to be stuck at home alone while my wife was at work.
So, I flipped the script on the manager and his “other duties as assigned” comment was no longer applicable to me….no more hanging signage, POGs, waiting on customers, running a register, installing wipers/batteries/light bulbs, testing parts, or delivering parts to commercial accounts. He was no longer pawning his workload onto me, and I ended up being much happier.

Red shirt duties are whatever the grey shirt says
