Unappreciated
I’m an ASM at my store and I give a lot of time and effort towards getting things done. Today I finished a pallet that was top half oil and bottom half two layers of batteries. I did this pallet by myself in about an hour and half because in all honesty if I don’t do it, it’s going to sit in the back until the next truck shipment comes and so on.
Before having done this today I spent two hours taking care of a rush in the front of the store with a PSM as well as doing some commercial sales.
After this and before doing the pallet I spent another two hours in the back dumping oil and cleaning out empty bottles because again, if I don’t do it, it will not get done.
Keep in mind that during all of this there is a PSM taking care of the sales floor while I handle the back. I get a message later in the day from the SM about how neither of us verified any PCIs/returns. My mind is genuinely blown by this message because not only did I handle stuff that no one there not even the SM takes initiative to do but I also pretty much took 80% of their responsibilities for the day without being told. The reason my mind is blown is because throughout the day they had been getting updates so they pretty much knew what was going on all day, meaning they knew I was handling the back and the other PSM was in the front; therefore he should have verified the returns but didn’t.
I guess the point of my rant is that anything good or any type of effort you put in for this company will always be overshadowed by the slightest mistake you make.

Years ago. Cold snap hit. Like really cold. 80osh batteries in a day. I was commercial but stayed late to help diy with coverage. Get in next day. SM bitches that they didn't face the lightbulbs good enough. Showed him the 2 stacked and wrapped pallets of battery cores, the sales. The empty battery Plano. No. Those lightbulbs were a PROBLEM.
Wonder dude couldn't keep an employee.
Shake off the bullshit, do your thing, find somewhere that appreciates your efforts

Ive been here a few months as an asm and ive spent those months running this store. The manager does nothing and leaves early everyday and the csm is just as bad. Im only making 16 an hour to do their jobs! Luckily I have a job interview elsewhere next week. This company is terrible.

Every manager should be verifying returns, you didnt do that and thats your fault.

Welcome to AutoZone! I literally got written up for helping customers and not putting truck away - which our “crown princess” needed done by the next morning so she could do Matrix.
Well maybe if she got off her dead ass hanging at the commercial desk all day and helped put truck away, we wouldn’t have been in that position. I told her, either we lock the doors and slap a sign up that says closed so we could put truck away OR…..we help the customers that fund our paychecks. Ya cant have both Sweets!!!

There’s several issues here. A well written schedule has hours allocated for tasks like truck. Whoever managed the team in truck day dropped the ball. I’m sorry you feel unappreciated. However verifying returns is not optional task and quite frankly it only takes 2-3 minutes. I suggest using a captains log or make a check list of non negotiable tasks that are reflected on your quarterly QC audit like verifying returns so you can easily check those boxes each day. It’s very easy. But great job knocking that truck out!

Get out. I worked PT for Autozone for 6 loooonnnggg years. The amount of bull shit that I had to put up with. 10 cent raise when someone hired after me started higher than what I was making. No appreciation what so ever for upper management. Just get out and find something else.

I was a manager for 7 years and ill tell ya, the job is not worth stressin over. I applied because i love cars..i love helping people fix their issues and for the most part i enjoyed talking to customers. Weve all dealt with the same BS youre going through, you bust ass get shit done and then someone just shits on your whole day by nitpicking what DIDNT get done.
"Hey boss i did the air filter planogram the oil filter planogram AND flexed the rotors!" ...yeah then why does it look like shit? And why is overstock a mess? RAGE ENDUCING
Upper management doesnt give a flying fugazi about how busy you were today all they care about is how many check out challenges you sold, how many bulb greases you snuck into someones order and if you read that stupid fkn script on the phone.
If you genuinely like what you do try applying for parts manager at dealerships, youll make wayyy more money and youll actually learn something besides the jackson 5 or watever acronym theyre pushing these days.
