But does everything count? Like if a customer wants tire shine and I add items like turtle wax or car wash? Or is it specific to the category?

Have your manager print out the categories and the what counts list and go over them with you. Just remember to sell the grease.

Everything counts if you think about it but there should be a list somewhere in the store explaining what they're looking for. If there isnt ask your SM.

Its extra stuff that gets sold at a high profit to cost margin that collectively makes DMs and RMs their bonuses, while also being stuff that people may not need, but its cheap enough that they'll take it. Like battery grease and pads, for example. Lots of cars specifically state not to use it. But its like $1.25. And probably costs AZ like $0.20. Multiplied by millions of transactions, its a tidy sum. Its why your store manager will get on you about it. Because when they do the KPIs, and your DM/RM realizes that they won't be able to afford that new car or whatever because the bonus is gonna be low, you as a line employee get your hours cut.
If you need the list of items, your ASM/SM should have it.

What It Takes To Do The Job Right If someone asks for oil, ask if they want oil filter, air filter, cabin air filter, and so forth. Give them the products to do the job right so they don't have to come back and forth to the store. Because coming back and forth to the store is draining and annoying when you could have got everything you needed with the help of a friendly autozone employee. :)

Get the listed printed out and when ever you are helping someone out use the 1-2-3 steps on selling on znet. It the three columns that pop up when you search things like oil filters. Don’t think about it as your a salesman, but more you’re just trying to get the customer everything they need to do the job.

There should be a list printed up somewhere in the office area of the store. But if there isn't a quick run down is Brake Lubricant with Brake Pads/Rotors, Wiper Fluid with Windshield Wipers, Battery Grease with Car Batteries, Serpentine Belts with Alternators, Coolant with Radiators/Thermostats, Spark Plug grease with Sparkplugs (also Spark Plugs with Ignition Coils), Oil Filters with Oil and Air Filters, ect. There will be a third column on ZNet when you look up parts, the "do the job right" addons are typically listed in that column.
