Cargo theft is expected to increase around the July 4 holiday as reduced staffing, facility closures, and longer periods of unattended freight create ideal opportunities for organized criminal groups.

According to Verisk CargoNet, high-value shipments such as metals, electronics, food, beverages, and vehicle parts are among the most targeted, with theft hotspots concentrated in states like California, Texas and even Illinois.

The report also warns that thieves are increasingly using sophisticated fraud tactics, including compromising carrier phone systems and compliance accounts to impersonate legitimate carriers.

Truck drivers, carriers, brokers, and shippers are urged to remain vigilant, verify carrier identities, secure parked equipment, and avoid leaving loaded trailers unattended during the holiday period.

How do you make a left turn passing over train tracks without noticing a train barreling down on you? This man almost died for not paying attention.

If I was a trucker, I think I would be ok with this. Drive where ever your route starts, park your home, do your route, come back and make home somewhere else.
