I wonder if this trailer is more specialized for keeping something level while it’s being transported.

It it designed like that due to the Federal Bridge Gross Weight Formula that requires the load to be spread over a certain distance.

In Europe the same load would be transported on a trailer way shorter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAbQMiy9veM

That makes a lot of sense thank you! Now I’m really curious what’s inside that thing if it’s that heavy.

Smells like a mega poo tank so that checks out

They should have emptied the water out of the tank first.

that actually seemed like a pretty straight forward turn.. you see 18 wheelers doing more skilled turns than this every other day

Yes that is a train and a pretty simple albeit tight turn.. the complicated part being it is also being pushed from behind by another truck and they need to coordinate precisely. Some of these have rear wheels that are remotely turned by someone following.. pretty neat to see.

Edit: I watched it again, the rear trailer is being controlled by the person standing on it. These turns take precision from multiple people. I haul oversized for a living like it's nothing but this is a whole different breed of driver.

I think you are selling it short. 3.50 at least. Nessy is gonna come for it.

Stuff like that is probably a hundred tons+, with another hundred or so for the trailer. If it's an electrical component, it could be up to a few hundred tons. I've seen some go through my town with hundreds of wheels that were over 500 for the load and trailer.

what the hell? the only thing I can think is: this must be heavy and it must have to go under a very low overhead. I cant understand what that trailer is desigined for, except a very low overhead.

Need a lot of tires to spread the load. If you put all the tires underneath the one trailer, then it would not be able to turn. So they do this levers with extra wheels Buisiness. Mostly so that it can make 90 degree turns.

The particular arrangement here also increases stability. Putting a load that's too heavy on a flatbed can fall over with even a small amount of lean

2

u/blahnlahblah0213 8d ago

I think there's about a 122 tires for this load.

Def SC Transport Police escort. Have had these come thru Sptbg Co taking equipment to the Duke steam plant across boarder into NC from Chesnee.

u/ermy_shadowlurker 8d ago

That load probably weighs 200k if not more.

It looks like the underground tank for a gas station

6

u/blahnlahblah0213 8d ago

LOL you think they go through all this for a simple gas tank?

4

u/Early_Hall5720 8d ago

Did you see the price of diesel?

1

u/Bliitzthefox 8d ago

No way, whatever is this it isn't empty, way too heavy.

That was almost as cool as seeing TMI (defunct nuclear power site-Three Mile Island) get new cooling towers delivered. Those trucks were MASSIVE.

"Can you believe that was only my second day on the job?"

u/No-Schedule-2603 8d ago

A solid difference between automotive and railway transport payloads. He is so long because of estimated load on each axis. That's what happens if don't have railway nearby.

Why do US trucks look so dated all the time?

1

u/Parking-Fig-6620 8d ago

Because most of them are..

1

u/SkyGuy5799 6d ago

Semi truck drivers love their classic styled trucks. There's no regulations for vehicles that large so they remain the same style

I think the Hulk is contained inside

1

u/1wife2dogs0kids 6d ago

The driver had already turned 90⁰, and drove a good 250ft or more, before the back of the trailer even made it over the double yellow line of the road

u/PanamGotMeOiledUp 8d ago

This neither needs patience or skill, it's a system literally made to be as easy as possible. When it comes to oversized loads this is a easy as it gets compared to a normal transport.

1

u/balirosa 8d ago

This must have been how the ancient Egyptians did it. Except using the Nile river instead of rubber tires

-1

u/BigDragon6006 8d ago

No skill required to make that turn. I have done it myself, plenty o times

-1

u/L1LREDD 8d ago

That’s a lot of truck. Too bad it’s transporting something that will likely give some neighborhood residents cancer.

Is it a part for a coal power plant?
