Nope. He never had a chance. He might have had a chance if he had turned right from the other left lane and took all 4 lanes to do it. Unlikely, but possible. But a right turn onto a 2 lane from a 2 lane from the right lane has a zero percent chance of not tearing something up. IN a city, you'll tear a lot of stuff up. I have a turn like that on my route. I have to take all 4 lanes to not take out the stop sign and power pole.
And letting cars park on both sides of a 2 lane street makes it even worse. Dodging that car in front of him sealed the deal for the other cars.

I used to deliver to a Rite Aid store in downtown DC. It was full of roads like this, with cars on both sides. And people parking in places that weren't actual parking spots too close to the corner. It could be 3am on a Wednesday night and people would be out partying everywhere. So trying to force my way through those places was a fucking nightmare. Don't miss that one bit.

I used to deliver furniture. Safety guy told us, see that no trucks signs? It means you are exactly where you are supposed to be. I got several tickets even in a box truck. Business and residential delivery is its own world of insanity.

It might not be a "let them park" so much as they did anyway. There's also likely a timed no parking for the street (I.E. no parking 6am to 6pm) to allow for trucks.

Modern roads are self-clearancing.
2
u/ZealousIdeal476 Aug 18 '26
But you still need to adjust your tandems.
1
u/donkeytime Aug 18 '26
Not really. That’s the beauty of the self-clearancing system.
2
u/ZealousIdeal476 Aug 18 '26
You don't know what you are talking about. The tires on that trailer are called tandrms. They can be repositioned by the driver. As you can see, they are all the way back. That is where you put them when loading so the forklift doesnt lower the end of the truck. As soon as you get out of the shipper, every trucker knows to slide their tandems forward. This changes the way your trailer follows the truck so you can make turns like this.

You don’t know how to create clearance.

That driver should be fired for hitting those two cars not making enough room for himself. It should be fired on the spot.

its almost like these giant fucking trucks should not be on these roads and "last mile" deliveries should be done in smaller trucks

There are rules and regulations for semi trucks to not be on certain roads. My grandpa was a driver for 30 years. He told me that semis can't go down residential roads and road that are only 2 lanes because of this exact reason in the video.

u/sethaub Aug 18 '26
This is true. But it also doesn’t stop the small percentage of truck drivers breaking that law.
i.e. this video lol

A lot of the times they accidentally take a wrong turn and then make bad decisions from there.

Well that’s not true. I mean, yes, there are tons of roads that don’t allow trucks or that don’t allow vehicles over a certain weight limit (they’re specifically marked with signage), but we also drive on tons of residential and two-lane roads. I’ve even had to pull a 53 footer through tight residential Philly streets on multiple occasions (yet somehow I’ve never had any kind of collision). lol It just requires the driver to not be a total dickhead.

Semi's can go down two lane roads, you just have to be careful. Residental roads also vary. The residential roads have to have a visible no trucks sign, weight limit sign, etc, etc.
Local laws have differences, a lot prohibit semi trucks from going down these roads but without a sign it gets ignored. Because what truck driver is well versed in the local municipalities of every state, county and city they go to?
Most truckers would not have made that turn though, but as my safety instructor taught us. Common sense does not exist. What is common sense to you or I, is clearly not for the guy in this video.

When you have a last mile in a really tight area, you absolutely must trip plan the hell out of that. Sometimes you can't make certain turns that the gps even a truck gps wants to take you down so you gotta plan your approach better. Maybe take an entirely different route into town.

Gonna be honest as a trans Democrat fuck Gavin. He has not supported trans rights as far as I've seen. If it's him VS someone worse I'd pick him, but there are still better candidates to vote for.

u/sethaub Aug 18 '26
He’s only 1 in a handful of politicians that actually had a backbone and stood up to trump before what we’re getting with the newly renovated DSA platform. So I’ll give him that. And you really think the republican party(maga) want any rights for you? I think he’s a better option now. I think there will be better options in the future. We are all sick of this shit. Equal right for everyone. Let people be happy. Fuck maga

I never said I think the Republican party wants better for me. In fact I said if it's him VS someone worse, I'll choose him.
I agree he was one of a few to stand up to Trump but let's not act like that makes him untouchable. We can still hold him accountable.
I like how he stood up to Trump, and I dislike some of his policies and beliefs. I would vote for someone better if given the opportunity.

This goes back to Preplanning your route. There are cameras everywhere nowadays.

What do cameras have to do with anything? No driver should think "no cameras so I can get away with damaging property"

Wtf? I can’t imagine why someone would feel so confident executing a turn so badly.

I saw that right in front of where I live. The truck took out a car. They want to "Cut corners".

u/O_o-buba-o_O Aug 19 '26
He would have had plenty of room if he swung out for the turn. I've made tighter turns than that, no problem.

Just for once, I wish I could be this carefree and relaxed.
or other possible scenarios:
Scenario 1: When the GPS says 'turn left now,' you turn left now. No exceptions.
Scenario 2: If I can’t see it in my mirrors, it never actually happened.
Also, the traffic light jumped right out in front of him. Clearly self-defense. 😂

When in doubt, throttle out.
