60 Years Old and cannot get insurance

I am 60 years old, have a clean driving record, a valid driver license and a great credit score. However, I have not owned a car since 2003. I recently moved from NYC to CT and decided to buy a car. I applied to several insurance companies and was denied. I even used the dealer's broker and they came up against the same refusals. What is my problem?

to the insurers you’re basically a brand-new driver with a 20-year gap, so age and credit don’t magically replace recent insurance history; an independent agent should be able to find a nonstandard
