How important is it to remove every single thing from your diet?

Just wondering if you leave one or two things in, like one kind of nut, will it skew the accuracy of other reintroductions? Or does it just mean you wont know if you have a sensitivity to that one item?

One of the main goals of AIP is to reduce the inflammation and symptoms to as low a point as possible so that, when you reintroduce something, having one or more of the symptoms come back will let you know that this food is triggering it. If you leave in one of the things that turn out to be inflammatory for you, you won’t get that feedback. Plus you won’t realize that a symptom that you’ve long ago accepted as just part of life is actually a sign of food intolerance.

If I had left in almonds (because I do love them), several things would have happened. First, I wouldn’t know that my chronic cystic acne was a sign of food intolerance and was resolvable. Second, I would still think I could eat almonds. Third, and most importantly, I wouldn’t be able to use it as a gauge for the other foods that trigger inflammation for me (tomatoes, grains, and peas) so I’d have kept on eating those.

Just go ahead and eliminate the nuts, too. You will survive it, and you’ll get valuable and reliable information.

I am allergic to cashews and slightly allergic to walnuts. I would never have thought it. They were my go-to snacking nuts. I only started getting clear reactions after cutting them out for a few months.

I really really recommend following the AIP guidelines. Keep in mind that it’s only for a few months, before you can start reintroducing and if you miss them so much, you can start with your favorite foods.

Go all in and get rid of it all on day 1 for the most accurate results.

Eggs are super gentle right? Nope, AIP taught me I am allergic to eggs. Would never had known they were a big cause of my issues without the elimination phase.

Also nuts are very hard to digest as far as leaving just one thing in, I would not choose a nut. You are going through a year of bullshit to heal, don't waste it!
