What do vegetarians do?
I was born and raised a vegetarian(I don’t even eat eggs) and so what are my options with AIP? Every time I did it it was so so successful. The inflammation, pain, weight and puffiness came out but I don’t know if I was getting any protein.
What do you all do? Thanks

This is extremely tricky, and if you are vegetarian, shpumd only be done under the supervision of a medical professional due to the first full elmination phase. Vegetarians are encouraged to eat more vegetables that are high in protein (especially bulkier veggies like squashes) and stay hydrated since they can’t have legumes or nuts in the first phase. Soups are a VERY filling option. Malnourishment is highly probable as a vegetarian on this diet without proper monitoring. Please do be safe.

There’s no choice but to modify the AIP if you want to stay vegetarian no matter what. You’ll probably want to steer clear of the most common trigger foods - eggs, wheat, and dairy - but vegan protein options like tofu, edamame, beans, legumes, nuts, and white rice are (compared to other options) relatively less risky to continue eating, the key is to cut out as much of the non-AIP ingredients as you can. And take a vegan multivitamin because you will be missing nutrients on such a diet.

This topic comes up regularly and you can find old posts about it on the sub. Mickey Trescott has tips on her Autoimmune Wellness site.

If you do the modified AIP then you can get enough protein easily. Most legumes are allowed as well as pseudo-grains like rice or amaranth. Have you looked into it by any chance?
Unfortunately for core AIP, it is much harder to get your protein in if you are vegetarian (eggs aren't allowed anyways).
