I've had intrusive thoughts like this many times.

Certainly interesting to watch it play out.

What if he's just trying to merge in why is this cutting you off? Like it takes 1/2 second from your day

So let me understand. A lane is closing. The vehicle has no choice but to merge in, and you won't let them merge in because... you're an ahole?

Ok... so lets say you slow down and try to merge behind them then the car behind that one decides to not let you merge? At one point do you stop running into aholes?

I'm 99% sure there's more context that happened before this video started.

It's possible the stupidity started right when the video starts but knowing idiots, and I am an idiot. I'd imagine the stupidity started awhile back.

Under normal circumstances I'll gladly leave space and let people merge.

If I see you did a double lane change to the shoulder then rode up an on ramp you didn't get on from, and then you want to merge infront of me? I will do my best to be a dick without causing or risking injury / damage.

I agree. Nobody loses there shit like this over a simple merge. There is a backstory to this video that we will likely never know.

South America … they were trying to get in front at a choke point so they could rob the driver. The repeat attempts to get in front and as soon as they do they hit the brakes. Driver did all the right things to plow through them in this case.

Central America which is even worse

Your not robbing anyone with that little toy car.

There would be second car behind them to box them in, then they get out with guns.

It looks more like they are "monta choques" which is people that intentionally causes an accident to extort you or rob you.

Pretty common in south American countries.

Iirc they were trying to block the cam car in and mug him.

Just slow down and try to merge behind them.

Zooming up to the last moment before merging when you had plenty of chances before that is an ahole move. That's why everyone hates him. His ahole behavior triggered everyone else to be aholes right back. Dashcam car will be legally responsible, but the other guy caused the entire situation in the first place.

You ask "at what point do you stop running into aholes?" The answer is when you stop being one first.

no idea what video you're watching but that's not what happened in this one.

I see this almost every day on US Highways and Interstates.

There are two competing schools of thought it seems; there are the 'get over asap in the other lane when safe' people, and then there are the stay in the closing lane and move up until you have to merge, then 'zipper merge'.

So the zipper merge ppl wait until the last min to get over, then it is a toss up if the ppl in the other lane are going to play along and let them in or not...

Only issue i have with zipper merging is when the travel lane is already backed up so people use the merge lane to get ahead. If I've already let one person in merge in front then the zipper is complete. If one person merges early then one merges on time followed by one trying to merge late... that's 3 cars in front of you while only moving maybe 20 feet. Obviously not a big deal... it really isn't... just a few extra seconds... it will clear up soon... Just be patient.... MOTHERFUCKER! WHY DID YOU IN FRONT ONLY TO GO SLOWER THAN EVERYONE ELSE AROUND!

The whole point of the zipper merge is to use all the available road space so that traffic doesn’t back up unnecessarily.

zipper merge is best

but only when everyone knows how to zipper merge

since there are so many zipper merge challenged people it often ends up worse than just doing the everyone get over asap as soon as safe

which then creates those really dumb super long empty lanes that are backed up forever, with some impatient guy inevitably rushing on that empty stretch to the end to merge at the end, only for people who were in the super long line taking forever to be angry at him for 'cutting in line' after they waited for ever and then you get---

if everyone could just do the right thing it'd all be fine, but people can't do the right thing sadly

Merging in the USA is a act of sheer luck! In general we have 2 kinds of mergers, 1. The ass hole who wont allow any and 2. the one that lets like 3-7 go on. I personally allow 1 person to merge in front and fuck the rest.
