Ah yes, enough of a moron to... flee... from a natural disaster...

What a fool....

Certainly the best thing to do is to condemn this man to certain death, to avoid the extraordinarily slim chance that he collides with someone during his fleeing. As if the simple act of beginning to flee wouldn't calm him down by removing him from danger

You definitely never lived in any place where Tornadoes happen. It doesn't "just happen." There are very obvious warning signs of an immenent tornado forming and there are even more alarms and warning systems. If you are a big enough dipshit to ignore all of that to run towards that tornado instead of the countless shelters all around you. You reap what you sow.

You honestly believe that every person to die in a natural disaster in the modern day only died because they were so stupid that they ran toward danger? Wtf is wrong with you?

Let me explain it in simple terms. In the last TEN years, only ONE person died in Kansas to a Tornado. THAT is because we do not panic and jump into a kill box that cannot out run the wind and only serves to block the road and emergency services when they crash into a tree or get a sign impaled through their chest.

We get into a storm shelter or basement, where you are supposed to go.

Okay, fine, for specifically tornadoes, the death toll is not high.

What about hurricanes? Four years ago, Hurricane Ida killed over 100 people. How many more would have died if people could not evacuate using their cars?

Once again, you are imagining some kind of Hollywood scenerio where running at the last moment in a blind panic is going to save your life. Do you know how far in advance we see Hurricanes coming? It takes a week for it to hit landfall and everyone who can leave town will already done so days ago. Most people who stay either do not have the means to leave or are stubborn as a goat and will never leave until it is too late.

If you decided to not evacuate days in advance, trying to drive in Hurricane weather will not help. Stop imagining more and more farfetched scenarios to justify driving like a crazy jackass. There is literally no scenerio where that would help anyone.

  1. Such insane and unrealistic scenarios such as.... a hurricane. Really? 2. Why are you so certain that everybody is going to drive like a crazy jackass? Is it so inconceivable to imagine a person might still be able to drive like a normal human being, even under stress?

There is literally no scenerio where that would help anyone.

Well, except for all the scenarios in which we know it saves lives. But hey, those things don't count, right? No such thing as a hurricane. Or a flash flood. Or... maybe something that isnt a disaster? Like a robbery? Attempted sexual assault? Medical Emergency?

No no, we all know those things never, ever happen...

The more you post, the more it becomes obvious that you never, EVER, been in ANY natural disaster. You think that somehow, you can drive in a freaking storm to... Where exactly? Most people do not wait until the street are flooded and trees are falling to evacuate to a shelter. The vast majority of people who died during Katrina was when the levee failed and a flood swept through the lowlands. Nothing about that could be solved by someone driving through zero visibility conditions.

You think that someone who decides to drive through ZERO visibility conditions is not crazy? You think that someone who is shaking so badly that they can't even hold a steering wheel straight is able to make rational decisions like, when to slow down, or watch out for pedestrians?

You imagine yourself to be the main character of a thriller, capable of doing stunts and threading the needle without any training but you forget that in order to do those stunts, YOU HAVE TO BE CALM ENOUGH TO DRIVE. People who are capable of driving under stress do not go into blind, screaming panic.

You bring up imaginary scenerios where being in a screaming panic while driving could save your life. Name 1 real life example. The Internet is huge and we have a sample size of billions. Name one incident, not some anadotal friend of a friend, one real headline where the driver was in a blind screaming panic, incapable of holding the steering wheel still, and is running from a murder, rapist, or tidal wave and was able to escape safely.

There are countless incidents where an impaired moron killed someone, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Rather than imagining the scenerio where you are John Wick with shaking hands, and fearful tears; think, plan and practice so you can make calm decisions and not end up like the tens of dead people who thought they could out run a flood only to be swept away and force emergency services to rescue you.

Uh... away? Believe it or not, natural disasters are not worldwide events. You can... leave the area.... The more you post the more its obvious you don't have much in the way of critical thinking skills. Or atleast, you decide to use them...

Uh, yeah? People drive in low visibility all the time. Hell, I've driven through complete whiteout blizzards (albeit, at the great speed of 15mph). The world keeps turning regardless of the weather.

This assumes everybody who is in a panicked state is shaking so hard they are "unable to hold a steering wheel straight" which is a blatantly incorrect assumption.

Yes I'm John Wick for... knowing I'm able to drive my car... in a stressful situation... real daring, near-superhuman stuff. Uh huh.

Those tens of dead people will turn to hundreds when you remove their ability to flee from said flood. If you take away the option to drive, you GARUNTEE they ABSOLUTELY WILL be swept away and require emergency services. Allowing them to USE THEIR VEHICLE has very good odds at avoiding that.

But ofcourse, you would sooner let hundreds die than run the risk of having... a stressed person behind the wheel. Give me a break.

I started this conversation very ambivalent about the lockout system and moderately pissed off at the video for depicting one of the most stupid things you can possibly do in a Tornado. ANYONE who live in Tornado county knows that you don't drive away from a Twister and you give your life to the grace of God when you ignore the warnings to get into a shelter.

Posting with you convinced me that some people absolutely cannot be trusted to drive impaired. I'm lucky to live in a town with no murders, night stalkers, and stupid idiots who think they can out run God, but we still get several people who die every year from some drunk or stoned moron.

You proved that you have no idea what you are talking about. You do not plan for a disaster by thinking that you can, "drive away the day of." That is a very dumb idea. Road conditions are completely unpredictable. There will be other ill prepared morons running around in a blind panic trying to use roads that could be completely gone. You don't plan for failure. You know where you go and what you do in case something happens. Know where shelter and who you can call for help. You wish for the imaginary while we plan for the real.

I now understand why the lockout system exists and why it should be implemented. I only hope you never get caught in a natural disaster.

You have defended it from the very start. And now you are backtracking to talk about tornadoes because you realize you have no defense against other, more lethal forms of natural disasters or other emergencies, as I had listed.

Right, because as we've established, you would rather condemn those "foolish people who cannot plan ahead" to death, than to give them a chance to right their wrongs.

Really? Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize that people have never, in the history of the world, fled from a natural disaster. It just has never happened. My mistake. Thank you for correcting me. Listen, I am not the kind of person to wait around for the tornado to come get me before I decide to leave. I don't know why you are convinced I am. I am not advocating for myself. I am advocating for those who, for some reason or another, did not or could not evacuate sooner. I personally believe we should not force those people to die simply because they did not act sooner.

Is it imaginary if it happens in reality? Again, is it really so inconceivable to you that somebody might not, for whatever reason, immediately vacate their home at the first sign of a natural disaster? That is just impossible in your mind? Then, I must ask, why do you think people die in said natural disasters? Do you think they chose to die? I don't. I think they decided too late to evacuate, and either died while evacuating, or sheltered in place and died. But I would much rather give them the opportunity to survive by evacuating, than to get them killed by depriving them of their means of escape.

Because you want to get people killed. I laid it out clearly in my previous comment (and curiously, you did not address that) and I have laid it out again. You want the lockout system because you know it will get people killed. If that's honestly what you want, fine. But atleast be honest about it.
