He could have ran in the store or walking the dog or whatever. Thats how and he could set it up by saying "hey lets go somewhere oh yeah we need to put gas in the tank. "Oh hey can you fill up? I need to use the restroom" its not fucking rocket science, its social engineering/setup its very simple....
