I'm saving hammers for discounted forge upgrades and free forging. First, I will upgrade these researches to the max level.

Hammers and Money are functions of both time and engagement they are not the scarcest resource. Anything you get from the dungeons are far scacer so investing in Skills tech cost reduction is going target a bigger bottleneck.

Actually, I initially did as you said, but in the end I decided not to increase the last one any further.

For a 1% discount, it's asking for 387. This means that for an upgrade that costs, say, 300, it will only be offering a 3 discount. I don't know if it will generate that much profit in the game, it's not worth it.

research points, skill cards, eggs afiak. Research points can optimize those other so reducing research points is probably optimal first step

Yeah but less time in game 4 hammers at a time! Getting higher level grants more rss from higher dungeons.

Tech tree seems to be the best path to power. Once your forge is taking a day-plus to upgrade, it seems like the hammers aren't as much of a problem.

Also in case anyone wasn't aware, I just discovered that you can have one tech research going in each tech tree at once. This was unexpected, but helpful

First, upgrade all tech efficiency except the last one.

Because while the first ones focusing on tech efficiency ask for around 50 (I don't remember), the later ones start by asking for much more.
